On a crisp, golden fall day, on November 17, 1967, Jesus gifted Josie Mae Crosby Roseboro and Henry Benjamin Roseboro Sr. with their youngest child, a beautiful, baby girl, who they would name, Tressa Irene Roseboro. As the baby of the family, Tressa’solder brothers and sisters doted on her and spoiled her rotten. She was the delight of her mother and the apple of her Daddy’s eye. “Teresa” as she was known by her family and friends had a contagious laugh, a fun-loving spirit, and kept people laughing. Teresa was so much like her Mama! She simply loved people and would help anyone she could. Countless people were given a place to lay their head, a plate of food to eat, and given money to pay bills by our generous and loving Teresa. Teresa was affectionally known as “Ma Dukes” of the Eastside. Her porch was a place to rest your feet and rest your weary heart. Her kitchen was a place to fill your belly but also to receive good, sound advice. She was a relationship counselor, a problem solver, a listening ear, and a shoulder to cry on for so many people.
The pride and joy of her life was her family. Rodney “Shake” Mason was the absolute love of her life. Her eyes trinkled and her face lite up with joy when Shake would walk in the room, or when she would hear his voice. Teresa was a loving, kind, generous Mother who fiercely loved her children unconditionally. She was overjoyed to be a grandmother and she cherished and adored her grandbabies. Teresa loved her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews whole-heartedly. Shewalked in the footsteps of her mother daily in how she carried the mantles of service, generosity, selflessness, loyalty, and courage.
She was a proud member of the class of 1986 from Shelby High School. She enjoyed attending football games with her love, Shake. She was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Duke Blue Devils. She loved to cook and to decorate.
Teresa was a diligent worker. She was employed by Coates in McAdenville, NC. She rarely missed work and would faithfully go to work, even when she was tired. She took pride in her work and in achieving her goals at work.
Teresa was proceeded in death by her parents, Josie Mae Crosby Roseboro and Henry Benjamin Roseboro; step-son, Ryan O’Neal Mason; mother-n-law, Mae Helen Mason; father-n-law, Julius Mason; brothers: Danny Alexander Roseboro, Floyd Ray Roseboro, Henry Benjamin Roseboro Jr., Charles Sanders, and Gabriel Gene Roseboro; sisters: Brenda Maxine Roseboro Gist, Carolyn Roseboro, and Beverly Laborn Smith; nieces: Athena Roseboro and Danelle Hartgrove Clay.
She is survived by the love of her life, her beloved husband, Rodney Mason who has been by her side for 35 years; her four sons: Doran Sentell Roseboro(Jalissa), Darrin Derrod Roseboro (Shemera), Tywan Roseboro, and Deshauwn Devonte Roseboro(Shaquera) and her step-daughter, Wyshena Thomas; her grandchildren: Adrian Dupree Roseboro, Jaceion Roseboro, Jyqualin Roseboro, Keasia Roseboro, Deonna Roseboro, Kinsely Roseboro, Deaja Brooks, Renaja Anderson, Adrianna Roseboro, Kamoni Johnson, and Kenziah Johnson; her brothers: Jerry Roseboro (Cathy) Leon Roseboro, and Benjamin Laborn; her sisters, Deborah Laborn Galmaner and Marilyn Partlow; her sisters in laws: Hazel Martin(Tony), Belinda “Ann” Mason, and Mae Jackson; brother-in-law, Eddie Mason; uncles: Charles Borders(Ann) and Taft Borders (Alice); aunt, Ella Wilson; special nieces: Rev. Dr. Starr Tressa Gist Wright (Eric) and Wankeshia Ann Ross; special nephew, Michael Roseboro Sr., special great-nieces, Eliza Wright, Eden Wright, and Latifah Moore; special great-nephew, Rashay Gidney; three special sons of her heart who she looked at as sons: Aaron Smith(Jasmine), Jamarcus Wray(Courtney), and Alex Barrow; special friend, Aretha Bunnie Hines(Bernard) and two special friends from her job: Pat and Susan. Teresa leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish her memory. Our beloved Teresa will be deeply and profoundly missed, but we will continue to celebrate the memories made and rejoice in the good times we were able to spend with her.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM and at other times at 1005 Buffalo Street Shelby.
