Obituary For Thomas Hopper

Mr. Thomas Lee Hopper entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at his residence in Shelby, NC. He was born on January 28, 1941 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Cofford Hopper and the late Elizabeth Miller Hopper.

Thomas entered into the U.S. Army in 1962 serving an impressive 30 plus years that entailed serving in the mainland and abroad. After retiring as a Master Sergeant, he relocated back to NC and continued being productive as a civilian with employment at the U.S. Postal Service in Charlotte, NC which spanned for 20 years before he officially retired. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved back to Shelby.

Thomas loved to beautify his home and always kept an emaculate yard. He also loved his family and loved spending time with his large extended family of nieces and nephews. Although he will be greatly missed, may he find rest from all his labor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tyrone Hopper; two brothers, Cofford Hopper, Jr., and Roy Dean Hopper; two sisters, Alberta Leak and Evelyn Gaston and a great-granddaughter, Karma Hopper.

He leaves to cherish his memory to his wife of 60 years, Ruth Morrow Hopper; his children, Timothy Hopper (Amy) of FL, Lena Whitener and Concetta Hopper Ager both of Shelby and Kenneth Wilson of Gastonia, NC; sisters, Doris Leak (Homer) and Betty Sloan both of Shelby, Virginia Whittenburg (Richard) of Charlotte, NC, Helen Harbison (Jimmy) of Lincolnton, NC and Ocie Mae Hopper of Shelby; one brother, James “Pete” Hopper (Doris) of Shelby; grandchildren, Gerald Hopper, Antonio Ager, Felecia Hopper, Leon Ager, Thomas Ager and Kenyona Wilson; great-grandchildren, Daleion Hopper, Nalaya McEntyre, Gwendolyn Hopper and Kamden Wilson; seven sisters-in-law; special friends, John Huskey, Jimmy Roseboro, Woodrow Coleman and Pink Bell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and many more who dropped by just to have a talk.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until 12:00 PM at the church on Wednesday.
