Obituary For Lousie McDowell

Mrs. Louise Dawkins McDowell departed this life on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Atrium Health Cleveland in Shelby, NC. She was born on February 22, 1945 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Fred Dawkins, Sr. and the late Katie Odoms Dawkins.

Louise was a 1962 graduate of Douglas High School. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert McDowell, Sr. and her siblings, Earnestine Dawkins, Elsie Baskerville, Fred Dawkins, Jr., Dupree Dawkins, Sr., Evangeline Blackmon, Albert Dawkins, Leila Dawkins, Terry Dawkins, Rudolph Dawkins and Randolph Dawkins.

She leaves her memory to be cherished by her children, Robert McDowell, Jr. of NY, Ansley Wilkins of Greenville, SC, Jara McDowell , Omar McDowell, Sr., and Nerissa McDowell all of Shelby; one brother, Robert Larry Dawkins (Sarah); one sister Joyce Moore both of Shelby; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; special cousin, James Pratt of NY, NY; her in-laws, Ruth Parker (Douglas), Inez Johnson (Don), Bobby McDowell (Penny), Willie McDowell (Donna) and Johnnie Mae Guyton who she was especially close to as well as her special friends, Bea Ross, Barbara Johnson, Jeanie Smith, Rosa Borders, Lorene Brooks, Margaret Surratt and Patsy Ratchford along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church. The service will be livestreamed starting at 1:45 PM from Enloe Mortuary Facebook Page. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM at the church and at other times 821 East Greene Street Shelby. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.

To our cousins, we were so sorry to hear of Louise passing. Uncle Fred and Aunt Katie was a big part of our lives. Louise would visit along Vera and when Peggy was in the mix those cousins would have a ball. I sat quietly and watched on the sidelines. I knew they loved each other.
