James Thomas Morrow, loving known as JT, peacefully departed life on Friday, January 1, 2021, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He was born on August 20, 1948, in Shelby, NC, the fourth born to the late Thomasene and Molean Morrow. JT was a 1966 graduate of Camp School in Cleveland County. After graduation, he attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC, where he majored in Biology. During his sophomore year, he was drafted into the Armed Forces. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1969. He served as an aircraft mechanic before being honorably discharged as a Senior Sargent in 1972. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. Upon his return to Cleveland County, JT resumed employment at Hoechst Celanese (Fiber Industries Incorporated) as a machine mechanic. He continued in higher education at Cleveland Community College, where he studied Police Science. After over 25 years at Hoechst Celanese, JT moved to Charlotte, NC, where he was employed by Allied Barton, as a security officer for SouthPark Mall. He retired at the age of 62. In his adulthood, JT often reflected on times growing up on his grandfather’s farm. With his children, he shared memories of playing dominos with “Gran Paw,” his daily chores on the farm, and fishing with “Granny.” As a result of his time on the farm, JT became an avid outdoorsman. He found pleasure in being a breeder, hunting, and fishing. At an early age, JT was baptized and became a member at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. He also found great pride in serving his church family as a faithful choir member, trustee, and deacon. He enjoyed watching westerns in his past time. In addition to his parents, JT was preceded in death by his grandson, Alphonso D. Wray, Jr. He leaves to cherish fond memories of their love, his wife, Barbara Morrow of Rock Hill, SC; son, Alphonso D. Wray of Shelby, NC; daughters, Kimberley Morrow, Angela Morrow, and Leslie Morrow of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Mazalene Jordan of Kannapolis, NC, Peggy (Ernest) Brown of Charlotte, NC, and Penelope Gulaid of Shelby, NC; brother, Alonzo (Portia) Morrow, Sr. of Shelby, NC; grandchildren, Teyona Wray of Detroit, MI., Rodkeyi (Devin) Harper of Spartanburg, SC, KaDashia Wray of Charlotte, NC, Kissiah Wray of Shelby, NC, RaShada Morrow, Raeven Morrow, Kennedy McFadden, David Anderson III and King Anderson, all of Charlotte, NC; five great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
