You will be missed Cousin Hayward. I have many fond memories of times spent in Shelby with you, your family and Aunt Grace. God bless your family and keep them strengthened during this difficult time. Cousin Maurice Brooks and Family.
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Homsley's passing. He was my Public Speaking teacher in the 9th grade at Shelby Junior High, and he taught all of us a great deal about how to present ourselves through speech and civility. Hevwas also the only truly hip teacher I had at SJHS...I have a mental image of him in bell-bottom pants and a leather vest. A smart, kind gentleman. I send my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
I first met Coach Homsley in the fall of 1983 at West Mecklenburg H.S. as a young 15 year old sophomore. I remember his kind and humble smile so vividly. He was always approachable at most any time. He cared about all of the students. I'm saddened to hear of his passing. Please accept my condolences. May God comfort his family and loved ones during this time. β€οΈ

Mr.Homsley was a humble man but he would always keep you straight he would voice his opinion whether you wanted to hear it or not. I met him through the School System and he was what you saw is what you got no sugar coat. Mary Sims Family
Family, "There is no greater sorrow than to recall happiness in times of misery." β Dante Alighieri They say it takes a village to raise a child...to me, Haywood was a major pillar in the village I grew up in. He was a friend, mentor and father figure to many of growing up in Shelby and his constant words of encouragement definitely inspired me to always want to do more. Please know that however you are feeling right now - sad, numb, guilty, tired, angry - it's normal...there is no right way to feel. I'm so sad you're going through this...I love you all.
Sending condolences and prayers of comfort to Anjanette and family. May the good Lord grant you peace Sincerely. Jim and Karen Atkinson High Point, NC

My condolences, love and prayers are with the Homsley Family. Haywood and I met in 1961 at Livingstone College in Salisbury NC, where we became friends. We were double partners on the tennis team and fraternity brothers in the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. We went our separate ways after college, only to reconnect in 1986 when I moved to Shelby. Haywood was a caring, loving individual who loved his God, family, and mankind in general. I shall forever cherish the memories of him as friend, frat brother, and most of all a brother-in-Christ.
Haywood and Annette have been our neighbors for four years since my husband and I moved to Shelby. Haywood was the kindest, most humble, and sincere man. He blessed our lives in the four short years we knew him. We will miss hearing "Hey neighbor!" Annette, sending you prayers for peace and comfort. If you need anything, just holler across the way.
With love, Kaitlyn & Adam

I admired Mr. Homely for his love and concern for everyone. He has contributed so very much to children and adults in Cleveland County. He was a friend to me at a difficult time. We are poorer in his absence. This world needs many more Haywood Homaelys. Prayers for the family. Respectfully, Cornelia Sweezy
I'm so deeply saddened to hear about Mr Haywood. I can still remember meeting him for the first time at the Homsleys house who were our neighbors. I didn't know at that time he would be one of my favorite teachers and mentors. My love thoughts and prayers to the Homsley family. Kim Morrow

Praying for Mrs. Homsley and the whole family.
Mr Homsley was my coach and teacher in Junior High School. He was especially hard on me because of our family connection. He would always say, "Pete, I know you know better than that". He would always look at my grades every six weeks, which I hated. One time I made an 'F' in French and he said "Pete I know you didn't make an 'F' in HER class, indicating that my French Teacher wasn't too sharp. From then on; I felt so embarrassed I made all 'B's' in French.; Mr Homsley was an asset as well as a pillar to our Community. I tell you the truth, Shebly could use a hundred more Mr. Homsley's today. ...Thank you Mr Homsley, job well done! Peter M. Cabaniss (cabanisspeter@gmail.com)
