Mrs Christine Esther Littlejohn Keaton age 85 of 909 Earl Rd Shelby NC passed away peacefully on Friday April 8, 2022 at Wendover Hospice of Cleveland county. She was born on November 1, 1936 to the late Raymond and late Beulah Parks Littlejohn.
“Chris as she was called by many was a graduate of Cleveland High School in Shelby NC. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church from early childhood through her young adult years. She married Paul R. Keaton, Jr. and moved to NJ where she lived for 40 years. While in NJ she earned her degree in nursing. She worked for Essex County Hospital in Montclair, NJ until she retired after 35 years of service.
She moved back to her place of birth, Shelby NC in 1996. She was an active member of “The Round Dozen Book Club.” She was on the committee of “The Roberts, Borders, Mauney, Howell, Briggs, and related families reunion.” She loved to tend her flower garden and would work on it for hours.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Rosevelt Keaton, Jr. her son Charles (Butch) R. Keaton, two brothers, Kennard E. Littlejohn and Jimmy L. Littlejohn.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Julia K. Signal and Byron R. Keaton both of Shelby NC, two grandsons Garnell Tullis of Sparta, PA. and John-Paul Durant of Shelby, NC, one granddaughter Siera C. Signal of Shelby, NC, one brother, Raymond R, Littlejohn, Jr (Maxine) of San Antonio, TX, three sisters Betty Ann Tyson, Joyce L. Corry (Mack) and Priscilla L. Hoskins all of Shelby NC. one brother-in-law Don Keaton of Cincinnati, Ohio, eight greatgrandchildren, three great greatgrandchildren. and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. The service will be livestreamed starting at 1:45 PM from the Enloe Mortuary Face Page. Burial will take place at the Webb Memorial Lawns.
To the family and friends of my dear friend and former coworker, Mrs. Keaton, you're in my thoughts and prayers, and have my deepest sympathy during this time of sorry as you celebrate the home going of your love one. We shared time and space for more than 55 years,and I thank God for allowing us to share our early journey in our career as well as in retirement. I was very sorry to learn of the death of Christine. We were students at Cleveland High School. After she retired and moved back to Shelby with her husband, Paul Jr., I would see her each year at our Family Reunion, which she played an active part in the activities.
