Ms. Barbara Gerldine Hunt, 74 of Shelby, NC passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Atrium Health Cleveland, Shelby NC. She was born in Cleveland County, NC on November 16, 1948 to the late Lester Hunt and to the late Mary Bennett Hunt.
Barbara led a dedicated life in serving others. She maintained a full-time career in care giving. She housed, taught, and gave extended care to those with disabilities. She had the natural ability to not only mother and nurture her own children but many generations of children that she crossed paths with. She managed to provide catering services for local and surrounding communities also.
Barbara had a humble spirit. She never asked for recognition or acknowledgement for anything but was widely known in her community and by her neighbors to always have a hot meal ready to give to anyone, at any time of the day. She was a wise woman of strength and faith.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her dear husband, Gerald Burris; son, Scott Burris; three brothers and one sister.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Geraldine Burris and Natasha Burris; son, Maurice Burris; grandchildren, Kierra Burris, Amber Burris, Dasmine Burris, Tyrone Degree, Emanuel Degree, Aubrey Burris, Breail Burris, Prada Burris, Serenity Burris, Trinity Burris, Angelica Wilson, Shia Burris, and Hakeem Burris; 17 great grandchildren; sister, Louise Elmore (Loy); Janie Price (Clyde); brother, Bob Hunt (Mae); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at S.T. Enloe Chapel at 11:30 AM. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 11:30 AM on Saturday and also at 107 Broad Street, Shelby, NC.

Am sorry you had to leave this earth but I know God called you home. But you will be missed. I only met you for a short time but I really enjoyed you. To the family my heart goes out to you and yours.
