Our heartfelt condolences to Janice and the entire Winfrey family. I met Tyrone through Janice in the 90s, while working at WCCC. I saw immediately his passion for helping students and his community. Tyrone was instrumental in helping my daughter Ayana receive scholarships to MSU and my elder daughter Kimberly with guidance after she completed her Masters in Higher Ed. Our family extends our deepest sympathy to you. May God grant you His peace and comfort. ~Rev. Gwen Hatter & Family

Dear Janice, TJ, Lauren & Chad:
It is with heartfelt sympathy that I share these wonderful memories of a friend, brother-in-our Lord and a former colleague with our MSU Extension 4-H Youth Development Program. I will always remember Tyronne for his genuine passion towards promoting positive youth development and aspiring young people to achieve higher education. As you and all of us grieve his loss, we can also cherish the memories of the positive impacts that he made of all those who were blessed to know him as a passionate "man of God" and life skills educator for our children and youth, especially for underserved inner-city youth!
The Lord has called Tyronne from "labor to rest" so we grieve and at the same time, we thank God for the life and legacy of Deacon Tyrone Winfrey, Sr.
God be with you all and strengthen you during the days and months ahead!
Warmly,
Sandra Griffin, Friend & Extended Family
Dear Family, We have you cradled in our prayers. May God comfort you today and all of your tomorrows. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Do not forget to take your sorrow to God.
Mr. Winfrey and I worked together at the University of Michigan for almost 14 years. His passion for the youth of Detroit and the ideals of diversity and inclusion guided his every move. He wanted the best for every student he served. His dedication only improved the work we did. I honor Mr Winfrey today and always. My prayers are with the entire Winfrey family and all those he touched. His life will continue to live through his family and all those he challenged to do better. Dr. Dwight Fontenot
Tyrone Winfrey has been such a light and inspiration to so many. He worked tirelessly while he was a DPS School Board Member. He was always reaching out to help those that needed assistance with school or employment. He was a Christian and allowed the Holy Spirit to lead him. Once I needed employment and he provided a reference and I was employed and my salary was substantially hired than most. He was truly a God Sent to so many. He will be truly missed 😢. Praying 🙏🏻 for Mrs. Janice Winfrey and Family.
We join others in celebrating the life of this royal Ambassador for Education. He has been active in our family for more than 30 years. Our children have excelled in many ways because he cared and got involved. Bless his memory forever! Love, condolences and prayers for Janice and the entire family. The Kellars

David & Karen Hull send our love and prayers to the Winfrey family.
When my oldest daughter and a family friend attended the college fair at Greater Grace Temple years ago, Tyrone was very helpful in making sure both girls got in front of the right people in order for them to be accepted (either on the spot) or shortly thereafter. They were the only two girls who came properly dressed, with resumes, and transcripts. Instead of the long pathway of acceptance, Tyrone followed up by putting us in touch with a local recruiter for the school my daughter wanted to attend. She was immediately accepted. Tyrone was a true blessing to students and we appreciated his diligence and compassion to assist. We pray that the peace of the Lord envelop his family and friends in the days ahead as they cherish the many wonderful memories shared with him. Blessings! Tracey Lee
Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at this time. The Roberson family.
