To the Rankin Family, On the morning of August 1st while eating breakfast the shock of James' passing came to me. it was then and now difficult to comprehend. One never knows the day or the hour when life on this side of earth will cease. It was the week before, he and I talked for an hour hour or more on the phone. We talked about families, our health and up coming retirement and my fourteen year retirement . It was an upbeat conversation in general. We, both, talked about Charlie and his impact on our lives.
Looking back and revisiting my personal encounters with James, they were positive. He was a man of his word. He said what he meant and meant what he said. James was a kind and generous person. He would do actions of kindness and refused pay. James was a hard and dedicated worker.
Family remember James' warm smile, the acts of kindness, peace and love for his family. In your remembrance tell stories that he told, about life and life experiences. To save lives of others he made a quick call that resulted in the accident. John 15:13 says "There is no greater love than this: that a person would lay down his life for the sake of his friends." That is what James did.
My final thoughts are love each other. Be kind to each other and think about what would James say and do.
A Lifelong Friend, Sylvester Leon Fleming, Sr--Mt. Ulla, N.C.
