Celebration of Life Services for Ms. Enid A. Owens, will be held Sunday, October 10, 2021, 11:00 A.M. at The Chapel of Donald Trimble Mortuary. Enid Agatha Owens, was born on August 31, 1934 in Perseverance Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, Guyana. She was the only child of Thomas and Ismay Lynch. Enid moved to Brooklyn, New York in the 1960’s. As a trained seamstress she hoped to start a business in the United States. Along her journey she found the financial district in Manhattan, working for firms such as Aetna, Morgan Guarantee (now JP Morgan Chase) and finally Bankers Trust (now Deutsche Bank). At Bankers Trust she thrived in the area of securities settlement. She took great pride in earning the designation as a “trouble shooter”, someone who resolved the most complex settlement issues during a pre-automation age. During this time, she met and married Kelshall Riley. From this marriage she gave birth to her two sons Keith and David Riley. The family moved from Brooklyn to Queens in 1970. Enid later moved with her sons to Freeport, Long Island in 1977. Enid took advantage of early retirement from Bankers Trust in the 1980’s. Afterwards she spent time in other professions such as debt collection and later nursing. She spent several fulfilling years as a nurse’s aide until suffering an injury that led to her retirement. She had many talents and continued to work for herself as a seamstress and caterer. She also had a passion for real estate investing, owning and selling several houses that she lived in with her family in Queens and Freeport. One of her most fulfilling experiences while living in Freeport was joining Transfiguration Episcopal Church. She served the church as a member, choir member, office worker and caterer of several church events. She maintained her membership long after leaving New York, up until the last days of her life. Enid moved from New York to Marietta, GA in 2012 to be closer to her son David and his family. She made many friends in her retirement community Ashton Arbors. She also grew stronger in her relationship with the Lord. During this time, she had her greatest influence on her family. She continuously encouraged her sons and grandchildren to turn to the Lord during good and bad times. She always gave copies of daily devotional readings to them. One of her last teachings was telling her son David to always recite Psalm 23 during challenging times. He read Psalm 23 to her during her last day on Earth. Enid was preceded in death by her mother Ismay Lynch, who lived with her during the last years of her life. She leaves behind her sons Keith Riley and David Riley; grandchildren David Riley, Jr., Imani Riley, Brianna Riley and Chase Riley; and great-grandchildren, Nolan Powers, Nathan Powers, David Riley, III, and Calvert Riley. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence Sunday, at 10:00 A.M. Donald Trimble Mortuary, Inc., 1876 Second Avenue, Decatur, 404-371-0772-3.
