Deacon Homer H. Boyd was born in Jefferson County to the parentage of the late Mr. Garvin Boyd, Sr. and the late Mattie Ella Jordan Boyd. He made his transition from labor to reward on December 4, 2020. Private Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at James and Virginia Davis Chapel. Burial will be held in the Family cemetery. Homer attended the public schools of Jefferson County and furthered his education later in Brooklyn, New York.. He became a licensed union carpenter. Over the years, he participated in the construction of many buildings, including the Trump Towers in New York. He retired from working in 1988. His children will remember his style of fashion, but the will him as a dedicated father. He was a hard worker, and stressed the value of an honest day work for an honest day’s pay. He was extremely outgoing, and enjoyed conversing with others especially about the Lord and the bible. At an early age, he became a member of Wrens Chapel A.M.E. Church, where he served faithfully until he moved to New York. He later returned to reside in Martinez, then he became a member of Life in the River, where he served in the Deacon, Financial and Usher Board. He also served as one of the late Apostle Gary R. Reese’s armor bearers. After retirement, he became an entrepreneur and owner of Boyd’s Construction. He also purchased the Miller Theater Outreach Project on Broad Street, Augusta, Georgia; Boyd’s Food Truck and the Boyd Foundation Corporation, Inc. He enjoyed working and providing for his family and community. He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ervin Boyd, siblings, Lua Bell Evans, Lacy Walker and Garvin Boyd, Jr. Homer leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 57 years, Lessie Boyd, Martinez, GA; his children, Jeffery (Negesha) Boyd, and Stephanie Trimble, both of Atlanta, GA, Anthony (Patricia) Fleming and Timothy Boyd, Martinez, GA; seventeen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; siblings, Jeanette Daunita (Theodist) Grimes, Miami, FL, Arthur Boyd, Atlanta, GA, Larry Boyd, Twin City, GA, Evelyn Boyd and Rev. Bobbie Boyd, both of Wrens, GA; a close nephew/brother, Albert Berry, Jr., Augusta, GA; in-laws, Eddie Fleming, Leotis (Ann) Fleming, of New York, Dorothy Walden, Louisville, GA, Eva Murry, Patricia Robinson, James Trimble, all of Augusta, GA and Shirley Trimble, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; aunt, Willie Mae Boyd, of New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
