Sarah Phillips was born on March 15, 1929 in Gaston County, North Carolina to the late Romeo Elexander Phillips and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Jackson Phillips. The tenth of eleven children, Sarah was a very humble spirit, and she possessed a smile that would light up any room.
At an early age Sarah became a member of Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church, Gastonia, North Carolina where she served on numerous boards and committees. Sarah was a faithful member who attended service regularly until a decline in her health prevented her from doing so. She loved her church family.
Sarah was employed by TiCaro Industries for many years until she retired in 1991. After retiring Sarah enjoyed traveling, reading, various forms of artwork, and spending time with family and friends. Her infectious sense of humor brightened even the darkest of days. On Tuesday, July 14, 2020 Sarah passed away peacefully in her beloved “Victory Community”, which she called Home for seventy-nine years.
Besides her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by all of her sibling: sisters, Bessie Phillips Kendrick, Ocie Phillips Gordon, Thelma Phillips, Arona Phillips Cooper, Pearl Phillips, Martha Phillips, Teretha Phillips and Minnie Phillips Floyd; brothers, Marion Phillips and Richard Phillips.
Sarah leaves to cherish many precious memories her beloved and faithful son, Mr. Joel Anthony Phillips, loving daughter-in-law, Kymberly Henry-Phillips; two granddaughters, Angel and Tiffany; five great grandchildren, Kaidence “Katy”, A’yauri, Jonathan, Timeya and Kross; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will all miss her greatly.
