Melvin Olen Brooks was born September 24, 1944 in Gaston County, North Carolina and entered into his eternal rest Friday, January 15, 2021 at his home in Stanley, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Daniel and Agnes Davis Brooks
Melvin received his education at Lincoln High School, Bessemer City, North Carolina. He graduated with the class of 1963. At an early age, he joined Macedonia Baptist Church. He was a member of the choir, Brotherhood/Men’s Ministry, and later became President of the Usher Board. Later, God called him to the Deacon Ministry. He loved God, his family, and his church family. He enjoyed playing golf, going to car shows, spending time by the ocean, and traveling with his loving wife and family.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents: Daniel and Anges Davis Brooks; his sisters: Eloise Adams and Sara Davis Cooper; his brothers Frank Brooks (Dorine) and Dan Brooks; his brother-in-law, Ben Worthy; his uncle and dear friend Calvin Brooks (Ruth Ann); and his daughter, Monica Genein Brooks. Left to cherish fond memories: his loving wife of 55 years, Brenda Sue Sanders Brooks, daughter; Teresa Brooks-Hall (Phillip), of Stanley, NC, son; Melvin Eugene Brooks (Cassandra) of Stanley, NC, three grandsons: Kenneth E. Brooks (Shelicia) of Mt. Holly, NC, Jeffery T. Wilson (Jessica) of Winterville, NC, Phillip W. Hall (Emily) of Atlanta, GA, four granddaughters: Ashley N. Wilson of San Antonio, Texas, Briana J. Degree of Durham, NC, Raven A. Brooks of Greensboro, NC, Kiara N. Brooks of Stanley, NC, six great-grandchildren: Kenyara C. Brooks, Kendall E. Brooks, Kenzie E. Brooks, Tristan J. Wilson, Austin M. Wilson, Isaac W. Hall, five brothers: Deacon Roosevelt Brooks (Rogerlyn) of Kings Mountain, NC, Deacon Jvan Brooks (Hattie Pearl) of Dallas, NC, David Brooks (Sandra), of Stanley, NC, Deacon James Louie Brooks (Sharon) of Stanley, NC, Deacon Bobby Brooks (Vickie) of Stanley, NC, two sisters: Betty B. Worthy of Charlotte, NC, Delores B. Johnson (Calvin) of Stanley, NC, one sister-in-law; Deaconess Barbara S. Brooks of Mt. Holly, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and other relatives and friends.
