Macie Lee Lowery Bagley was born on May 13, 1930 in York, South Carolina to the late Sam and Mozell Matthews Lowery. She transitioned from this earthly life September 14, 2020 at CaroMont Medical Center, Gastonia, North Carolina.
Macie was educated in South and North Carolina public schools. She retired from Ithaca Industries in 1995. After her retirement, she served as Guardian Ad Litem for the State of North Carolina in District 27A of Gaston County.
Macie “known as” Mother Bagley was a devoted member of Friendship Christian Church of Gastonia, North Carolina. She served in positions on the Usher Board, Missionary Ministry, Hymn Choir, Pastor’s Aide, Golden Age, Program Committee, Mother’s Board, Sunday School and any other capacity needed.
Macie served as the Chairperson of the Membership Committee for the NAACP. She also served as a Poll Worker for the Gaston County Board of Elections, other affiliations included: The Friendly Aide Society, Eastern Star Rebecca Chapter, Erwin Center Senior Citizen Organization and African Protection and Burial Society. She was a founding member of the Paradesian Social Club.
Macie was also fondly known as “Mama,” “Sis,” and “Ma Macie.” She is survived by her husband of fifty years; James W. Bagley, Jr., three daughters: Juanita Lowery-Gingles, Lisa V. Lowery both of Belmont, North Carolina and Dr. Lillian M. Lowery of Yardley, Pennsylvania. She leaves to cherish her memory, Donna Washington (Joseph), Reginald E. Lowery, Ray Bagley, Demetrius Garvin, Winston Bagley (Rachel), Martina Ithers, Denise Barnette, James Barnette (Brinda) and Tyrone Bagley.
She was preceded in death by her sister, France J. Wilson. She is also survived by her loving siblings: brother, Nathaniel Lowery (Lena) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, sisters; Bertha L. Lowery and Zenobia E. Campbell both of Gastonia, North Carolina, Annie Mae Knox of Kingston, New York, Carrie E. Lowery of New York City, and Verlene Treadwell, sister-in-law of New Haven, Connecticut.
She was blessed with three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
