Dr. Lowery was my Principal at Fairfax HS. She was an innovative leader and dedicated educator. I count her as a mentor of mine who constantly pushed me to higher goals. Over the years I kept up with her career and occasionally we chatted and caught up with each other. I have always been so proud of her and count it a blessing that I had the honor of working for her. She will be missed. I am praying for her family in friends during this very difficult time. Charmona Whitfield

Lillian was one of those leaders who was grace personified. She was unfailingly pleasant, yet always firm and forceful. She was quick to laugh but would never laugh something off. I will cherish memories of spending time with Lillian doing hard, purposeful work for the betterment of kids.

Lillian was an amazing education leader but, more importantly, a dear family friend who provided inspiration, optimism and laughter to everyone she touched. We miss her.

Dr Lowery was an incredible leader. I will never forgot my first day student teaching at Fairfax High School and how she made a point to welcome me to the school. She had a positive impact on everyone around her- from the students, to the teachers, to the community. Thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.

I remember the first time I met Lillian. We were in a conference room at the Delaware Department of Education, discussing some complicated and controversial policy change. There was disagreement around the table. And yet Lillian just radiated grace and optimism. She made the meeting a successful one with her presence. I don't know how else to say it, but Lillian exuded holiness. She was never negative, always positive, always loving, always moving forward. We will miss her. Thanks to her family for sharing her with the world.

Dr. Lowery was an Outstanding Advocate for our Son with Learning Disability at RRMS close to 20 years ago! PRAISE THE LORD! Dr. Lowery Open the Doors that Were Closed Doors 20 Years Ago for Educational Opportunity to Learning Disabled Children With Advocating Mainstreaming Education for All Learning Disabled Students! I owe my own teaching career to Dr. Lowery. She was an excellent English teacher and coach. I remember her support through teenage angst, her high expectations in class and her positive energy each day. These are characteristics I try to provide for my own students. May Dr. Lowery's family find peace and comfort as they remember and celebrate her life.

I send my heartfelt condolences to Dr. Lowery's family. She was definitely a professional role model for me. We shared being educators from the Carolinas living in Maryland.

She had recently written the Foreword to Women Who Lead In Education Featuring School Superintendents. This book will be released later in 2022 and will be dedicated to her in her honor.

Dr. Lowery was a lovely, thoughtful teacher and cheer sponsor when I was a student at JMHS in Vienna, VA. She helped me and many others organize our college applications. Dr. Lowery also made herself available to students if they just needed to talk. She was truly a beacon of goodness and light. May she Rest In Peace. - Sheri Corbett Lord

No words can explain the pain and loss that so many are feeling right now. We know she fought the valiant fight both personally and professionally. Gwet, though it has been years, we never lost the love and the warmth that began 60 years ago. It feels odd not to have your presence in the world. You leave a void in so many ways.
