Mrs. Doris Davis Davis, the only child of the late Clyde Eugene and Martha Bailey Davis, embraced life on March 29, 1936 in Gastonia, North Carolina. On Friday, December 24, 2021, God dispatched an angel to descend from Heaven to bring His child Doris home.
At an early age, Doris accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and she served Him throughout her lifetime. She was a charter member of the Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully served as the President of the Combined Choir for many years, and she was known for her beautiful singing voice. Doris also worked in various church auxiliaries, which included the Missionary Department, Kitchen Committee, Pastor’s Aide, Sunday School, Decorating Committee, and Vacation Bible School to name a few.
Doris was a 1954 graduate of Highland High School, Gastonia, North Carolina. She received an Associate’s Degree from Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and she also attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. She began her formal education in the Gaston County School System and was employed by Gaston County Schools for over thirty years as a Teacher Assistant. She was instrumental in educating hundreds of students. Doris loved teaching so much that she retired and then went back to work, retiring a second time in 2013.
Doris loved helping people and welcoming them into her home. She fed anyone who visited her home, and people frequently came back because Doris was an excellent cook. In fact, her greens, roast, and lemon meringue pies were unsurpassed. Doris wanted her family and friends to know that she was a child of God who loved everyone. Her wish was to let her family and friends also know that she did not fear death itself, because it was not the end, but a new beginning for her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Vincent Trammell Davis, and her great-granddaughter, Kaydence Trammell Meeks.
She leaves behind to cherish and love six children, Marlene Davis, Deborah Davis, and Phyllis Davis-Brown all of Gastonia, NC, Rosalind Davis (Kim) of Dallas, NC, Jada Fewell (Tony) of Gastonia, NC and Tommie Davis of Stanley, NC; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; daughter-cousin, Franda Cooke, and sister-cousin, Gloria Peters; lifelong friends, Alberta Aldridge, Ruby Friday, Gloria Love, and Ree Mattie White; her loving and faithful puppy, Zachariah; a host of other relatives and friends.

I just learned of Doris's homegoing from Rosalind and Kim in the grocery store this evening. Doris was a wonderful co-worker at both Gastonia Central School and Sherwood Elementary. She was such a kind, helpful, talented, and creative person, a pleasure to work with. She was a good friend whom I loved and respected. My condolences to all the family, as I know you all miss her. Sincerely, Stephania Morgan
