Obituary For James Alfonza "Phonza" Moore

James Alfonza (Phonza) Moore was born December 21, 1960, to the late Emanuel Robert Moore Sr., and Evangelist Elizabeth Moore- Jack in Hastings, Florida.

James passed away at his residence after a long illness. James as a Hastings resident was educated in St. John’s County School District. He was a member of Hastings High School Marching Band, where he played both the snare and bass drums. James

subsequently attended Marion Technical Trade School in Ocala, Florida where he earned numerous certificates and his carpentry license. James was highly skilled in carpentry, knowing exactly what he was doing and took pride in his knowledge and abilities.

James worked many years for Palatka Housing Authority where he performed rehabilitation on both apartments and housing units. With his knowledge he was employed with Mike Flanders of Flanders Construction. James was called upon for providing assistance with various projects relating to construction and rehabilitation. In addition, he had previously worked with David Hutson at Hutson Ranch on State Road 206. Let’s not forget his green thumb and his love of hunting and fishing. He was a member of Christ Witness Church Inc. Palatka, Florida, under the leadership of Presiding Overseer: Bishop Samuel L. Green, Founder, and Pastor.

James was proceeded in eternal rest by his maternal grandparents, Jasper and Alma Green, paternal grandparents, George (Buster) and Lillian Moore, former wife, Loretta Coleman-Moore. Loving aunts and uncles Gussie Evans, Florence Hodges, Myrtle Evans, Myrtis Evans, Lily Mae Williams, George Moore, Jr., Homer Moore, Johnnie C (Viola) Moore, RB, Jerry (Zeke) Moore, Julia Tomblin, Isaiah (Juanita) Green, Overseer Silas (Mother Vera) Green, Joseph Green, Irabell (Clifford) Ford, Mildred (Charlie) Stewart, Dorothy (Walter) Anderson Sr., Betty (Aldonis) Thomas.

He leaves to mourn wife, Clanisse Joseph-Moore, and two daughters Charlesina and Charlene Joseph, four grandchildren King Joseph, Izik Joseph, Kimani Joseph, and Nevaeh Bodie, all of Atlanta, Georgia.

Brothers and Sisters: Emanuel Moore Jr., Keith (Sheree) Moore, Shelby E., and Sarah Jack, all of Hastings.

Nieces: Brea Wilson, Amelia (Brecie) Varnes-Andrews, Jennifer Smith, and Tenisha Whitfield (mother of great-nephews). Nephews: Xavier (Zay) Whitfield, and Brian Wilson (McCall). Great-Nephews: Tyrek, Tysen, Tashaun and Trenten Whitfield.

Godparents Tommy and Audrey Woods Sr., god-brother, Tommy Woods Jr., and friends, Elder Ricky Lewis, Bernard Carter, and Carla Vickers.

Aunts and Uncles: James (Cheryl) Moore, St Augustine, Florida, Justine (Betty) Moore, Hastings, Florida, Johnnie Mae Moore, Lithonia, Georgia, Roszena (Cluster decd) Chestnut Hastings, Florida, Geneva (Prince decd) Grant, St Augustine, Florida. Beatrice (Kenneth decd) Jackson, Jacksonville, Florida sister-in-law Shirley Wilson. Extended families, Colemans, Ware, Lewis, Julia Mae Boynton, Stephanie Issac, and Mike Flanders.

Special mention: James (Tippy) and Sister, who affectionately bestowed the honor of (daddy James) upon him both of Palatka, Florida.

The family will receive friends and the community 5-6:30 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024, at The Felix Coleman Memorial Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Christ Witness Church, 1302 Madison St, Palatka, Florida.
