Carl W. Smith JR, a native of Hastings, FL was born on November 22, 1967, to Marvis M. Jones and Carl W. Smith Sr. In his early years he moved to Miami, FL and attended Miami Edison and Miami Norland schools. He was a student athlete on the football team. He furthered his education by attending college at DeVry University Institute in Atlanta, GA, ad later joined the United States Army where he also received dan honorable mention medal. He was a member of New Harvest Baptist Church in Miami, FL under the leadership of Pastor Michael Easley.
He loved fishing, telling jokes, spending time with his family, and talking on the phone with his dad Paul Jones. He was an advent UF gator and Miami Hurricane fan. He utilized his professions and training by working for FEMA and later transferred to Sheffield Steel.
Preceded in death by his brother, Roosevelt Delray”Ray”Brown, stepfather, Paul Jones, Maternal grandparents, Perman and Georgia Anderson, Mary L. Smith, and other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Carl L. Smith Jr memories will be cherished forever by his devoted wife, Joya Smith of Middletown, Ohio; his beloved sons, Zachary Smith and Carl W. Smith III; daughters, Brianna Smith, Leilani Smith, and London Cooper, a loving mother, Marvis M. Jones, sisters, Tawana (Jessie) Houston, Jahara Campbell; sister-in-law, Melinda Day, brother-in-law, Christopher Caldwell, aunts, Lucille Wesley, Audrey (Tommy) Woods, Dorothy Oliver, Bonnie Terry, Ruby (Joseph) May, Louise Douglas, Julie (Norman) Smith, Emily Smith, Gracieta Smith, Connie (Townsend) Harris, uncles, Paul (Gloria) Anderson, Cecil Anderson, and Reginald Smith. Special cousins, Bobby J. Smith and Lisa Alexander, and a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and co-workers.
The Smith family will receive friends and the community 4-6 p.m., Friday, July 14, at Mt. Zion AME Church in Hastings. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 15, at Mt. Zion AME Church Hastings, Pastor Alvin Oliver is the eulogist, Reverend Johnny Johns, Pastor.
