On Friday, November 15, 2024, despite the concerted efforts of the medical staff at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, Virginia, Alfreda “Freda” Martin Yuille, gently took the Master’s hand and entered into the garden of peace, love, and everlasting life.
Alfreda was born on February 28, 1933, the ninth child of the late Charlie and Ida Davis Martin. At an early age, she confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined the Cedar Grove Baptist Church II, Clarksville, Virginia where she was a devoted, enthusiastic member and served as a Deaconess, faithful Missionary and member of the church choir. As an associate member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Clarksville, Virginia, Alfreda served in any capacity that would advance the Kingdom of God. She was also a proud member of the Buffalo Union Choir.
Alfreda attended the Mecklenburg County Public schools and graduated from West End High School. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Edward Lindberg “Billy” Yuille and from this union they were blessed with two adorable children, Audrey Annette and Charles Lindberg. Alfreda was employed with Burlington Industries for thirty five years, retiring on April 16, 1999.
Alfreda possessed a quiet gentle spirit and a beautiful smile. She loved being outside. You could see her working in the yard, potting flowers or just sitting out enjoying the sun. You might have seen her with a hand saw cutting small limbs off trees. She was her own “handyman.” When she was able to drive, she’d visit in the community assisting those needing to go to grocery stores, appointments, or just wanting a friendly conversation. She made it a point to periodically travel down to the family farm, just to check things out. As her health declined, Alfreda found joy doing word searches, talking on the phone, watching the “View,” General Hospital and on Saturday nights, the Gaither Gospel Hour.
Alfreda was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Yuille; parents, Charlie and Ida Martin; siblings: John, Clem, Clarence, Charlie Vick, William (Bill); George, Beulah and Martha (Baby Mae).
Honoring and cherishing her precious memories are her loving and devoted children Audrey and Charles; two beautiful granddaughters, Sydney Alexis and Maya Lyndsey; siblings, Mozelle Brathwaite and Alice Jones; god-daughter, Alyssa Coleman; sisters-in-law, Jackie Martin and Mary Yuille; brothers-in-law, Jorge Brathwaite and Alex Yuille; a host of loving and devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and special friends, Pauletta Gayles and Bernice Williams.
Viewing for Mrs. Alfreda Martin Yuille will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 3:00PM to 7:00PM. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 with family hour from 10:00AM-10:50AM with funeral service beginning at 11:00AM at the Cedar Grove Baptist Church #2, Clarksville, VA
