Obituary For Louie Littleton DuPree, Jr.

Louie Littleton DuPree, Jr. died April 21, 2024 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA, following a brief illness.

Louie, known as “Luke” to many, was born October 22, 1940 at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Born to Frances Lucille McCall DuPree and Louie Littleton DuPree, Sr., Luke went on to graduate from Grady High School and later the University of Florida. Graduating from U of F (go Gators!) with a B.A. in French, he married Celia Katherine Ford and moved to Quitman, GA to begin a longtime teaching career. He taught at Brooks County Schools for approximately 20 years and later taught at Cook County High School for over 10 years until he retired. In addition to his teaching career, he was a business man and entrepreneur, designing and crafting boats, truck camper tops, and other items from fiberglass. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Quitman, where he taught Sunday School, was an elder, and served in many capacities over the years. All this despite the fact that he was legally blind his entire life.

Louie was an avid runner, musician, and family man. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Celia, his mother Frances, his father Louie, and his sister Sandra Marie Meyer. He is survived by his daughter Celia Katherine Scragg and her husband John Scragg, daughter Anne DuPree Smith and her husband Randall Smith, Sr., and daughter Elizabeth DuPree Godwin and her husband Christopher “Chad” Godwin. Additionally, he is survived by his brother William DuPree and sister Susan DuPree Steadman He is also survived by six grandchildren, Anna Scragg and William Scragg of Atlanta, Randall Smith, II and his wife Chloe Walker Smith of Valdosta, and Addison Smith of Quitman, and Ryan Amos and Timothy Amos of Warren, OH.

Services will be held on Sunday April 28, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church of Quitman GA at 2pm, with visitation with family at 1pm. Arrangements are being handled by BTW Funeral Home of Quitman GA. If preferred, donations can be made in his memory in lieu of flowers to any local educational foundation or to First Presbyterian Church of Quitman.
