Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the lord.
Geneva Hudgins Fitts was born in the Embro community of Warren County on November 6, 1921, to Arthur and Penola Hudgins. She peacefully left this earthly life on October 8, 2024, just weeks short of her 103rd birthday. She attended John Hawkins High School and the Deshazor College of Cosmetology, which reinforced her lifelong standards of grace and style.

Later she worked at a home for unwed mothers and became a paraprofessional at Planned Parenthood NYC, working directly with the renown Dr. Ruth Westheimer.
Geneva and Norwood’s plans to return to North Carolina for retirement were interrupted by his death in 1978. Returning to Embro, she finished building her home and became actively involved in Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Durham, the Warren County Community Health Board and the Garden Club.
