Mary was known for her unwavering devotion as a mother and servant, extending unconditional love to
her children and grandchildren. She was always ready to pray for others and offer assistance wherever
possible. Mary dedicated herself to serving her community in various roles: a Nursing Assistant, Foster Parent, Home Health Aide, and through community outreach efforts such as meal preparation.

A stalwart member of the community; Mary was an active and faithful member at Rose of Sharon
Deliverance Temple Church in Madison, Georgia where she served as a worship leader, missionary, and member of the usher board. She later joined Clarke Chapel Baptist Church; continuing her commitment to serving God. Her favorite scripture, Psalm 91, reflected her steadfast faith; she epitomized the qualities of a Good and Faithful Servant throughout her life.

Preceding her in death are her parents and her siblings: Ruth Nyland, Rubie Baugh, Alice Monday, Annie Lewis, Josie Perriman, Alvin Butler, William Butler, Fannie Butler, Shirley Butler, and Bessie Butler.

Mary's memories will be cherished by her sons Maury Rakestraw (Jeanette) of Dacula, Georgia, Dwaine Rakestraw, and Barry Rakestraw of Madison, Georgia; grandchildren, Anthony Callihan, A'Maury Rakestraw, Te'Maury Rakestraw, and Taylor Rakestraw; brother, Mitchell Butler Sr. of Miami, Florida; sisters, Martha Barnes of Madison, Georgia, and Grace Brown of Detroit, Michigan.

Viewing and visitation will be Friday, June 28, 2024 from 3:00 until 6:00 P.M. at Bernard's Madison Chapel located at 1086 Ward Road, Madison, Georgia.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Sister Mary Rakestraw will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Clarke's Chapel Church, 758 Hill Street, Madison, Georgia 30650. Reverend Cecil Champion, church pastor, is officiating. After the service, clergy, family, and friends will proceed to Madison Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest.
