Obituary For Mr. David Hughley

Mr. David Hughley of Panama City entered into eternal rest on March 25th in Panama. He was 70 years of age.

He accepted Christ at an early age in life. He was a member of Fellowship Church of Praise under the leadership of Pastors Dr. David and Vernette Rosier. He also attended Browns Temple First Born Church.

He was a dedicated employee of West Point Pepperell Textile for more than 20 years. He became an entrepreneur of concrete finishing and a carpenter for which his tradesman skills were unmatched. He founded DNN Construction in which he took great pride in as a master concrete mason. He provided concrete finishing and carpentry services for the Tri State area for 30 years. He was very adamant about leaving a legacy and teaching his children the importance of hard work and obtaining generational wealth.

He was always full of Life, Laughter, and most importantly Love. He had a very charismatic spirit, he was charming and also full of tenacity. There was never a dull moment with him. If you were ever fortunate enough to receive a phone call from him, his voice was always bright and cheerful. He would always start the conversation with his famous line “Hey Here” which would make you laugh and smile. He was affectionately known by many names such as Dave, Super Dave, PJ, and Concrete but the greatest title and name that he carried was DADDY.

He leaves cherished memories to (4) daughters, Trina (Thomas) Chatman II of Phenix City, AL, Nakisha Hughley (Kenneth) of Panama City, FL, Shetzy (Rodney) Story of Huntsville, AL, Ronda Hughley (Kieara) of Phenix City, AL (2) Sons David William Hughley Jr. of Lafayette, AL, Nicholas Hughley of Panama City, FL (2) sisters Gennette Ann Walker of Houston, TX, Evon Angie Armagon of Houston, TX, (5) grandchildren, Thomas ‘TJ’ Chatman III, Tyler Chatman, Javarious Hughley, Jamarco Trammell, Nastassja Story, (12) great grandchildren, (3) nieces Tyneka Spencer, Aireona Armagon, Devyonn Armagon (2) nephews Jihree Armagon, Willie Spencer Jr, (3) Aunts, Mary L. Thomas, Erma Jones, and Brenda Phillips and a host of family and friends.

A public viewing will be Thursday, April 6th from 3-6p.m. at Battle Mortuary Chapel.

A Solemn Farewell will be held Friday, April 7th at 12 noon at Potter’s Temple. Interment will follow in the Redwood Cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Battle Mortuary of Panama City.

Condolences to the family. It was my a privilege having met David years ago as a memberof Westcoast Church.

I met David right after I moved into the house nextdoor. He told me his name was Concrete and I wasn't sure if he was kidding or not. He must have seen the look on my face because he said, "well you can call me David too, that's my real name." I always heard his "hey heya" when he walked up. He had just called my name and given me a "snack bag", a Ziploc bag of toiletries and a washcloth. He had a few more in his hands to go pass out and he took off on his bicycle. He died that night and I was completely shocked when Mr. Phil told me. I am so very sorry for your loss. He will be missed. May God hold you all close and comfort you in the days to come. He was a character and I know many will miss him.
