Obituary For Mr. Alonzo Johnson

Alonzo Al Johnson was born on April 4, 1963, to the late Eveline B. Moore in Panama City, Florida. He made his transition of February 1, 2024 at the age of 60.

Alonzo grew up in Panama City, where he attended school and early in life gained an incredible love for football. He attended Rutherford High School where he established himself as a standout player for the Rutherford Rams. His exceptional talent on the field led him to receive an athletic scholarship to the University of Florida (Gators) in Gainesville, Florida. He played a pivotal role in the Gatos’ defense, contributing significantly to their success and earning the titles of team captain, first team All-American and first team All- SEC selection in both 1984 and 1985. He ended his season with 335 tackles, 55 tackles for loss, and 27 quarterback sacks and would be drafted second round (48th overall) in the1986 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He was later inducted into the Florida Gators All- Century Team and All-Time Team and inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame.

Alonzo will be remembered as one of the best athletes to step foot on a football field and for his funny, positive spirit. He was always telling jokes and making everyone around him laugh. He was always there to uplift and give words of encouragement. His memories and legacy will always be remembered by those who knew him personally and those who knew of his greatness.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his three children: Danielle, Brianna, and Alonzo Jr., their mother Cherrise, and his grandson Sincyre. Also, to cherish his memories, his loving siblings Deborah Austin, George Dean (Dot), Leonard Dean (Linda), Darlene Thomas (David), Darryl Johnson (Beverly), Althea Porter (Kenny), Ramonda Moore-Brown, aunts and uncles Alma Bell, Ezra Bell Jr., and Mattie Pearl Gainer, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives who he loved unconditionally.

In the words of Zo: “I’m a GATOR for Life!”
