Obituary For Evelyn Adelia Green

Evelyn Adelia Green first graced the world with her presence on July 14, 1952, in Panama City, FL. She was the cherished second child born to Milton Green and Exie Marie Jenkins Green. Adelia as she was affectionately known, was lovingly nurtured in a home where respect, love and the fear of God were fundamental values, instilled in her by her devoted parents.

Adelia’s religious teaching was provided by her parents and her Sunday School teachers at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church where she was a participating member for many years. In her adult years, she served the congregation as a Steward and many times she shared in leading various church programs for the church youth. In addition, to this volunteer work, she worked with the Girl Scouts and Brownies.

Adelia began her public education at Oscar Patterson Elementary School. In 1966, she was one of the small number of black students who integrated Jenks Junior High School. After graduating from Bay County High School, she enrolled at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA.

While at Southern University, Adelia met and married Edward Charles Honore, a fellow student. After a few years of residence in Baton Rouge, LA, the couple made Panama City their home. In their marriage, two children were born: her son, Edward Charles Honore II and their daughter, Faith Lynnae Honore.

Because of her friendly personality, Adelia performed well in the customer service field. She worked many years for AT&T in customer service, and after more than 20 years at AT&T she retired. Following her retirement she worked as a Direct Care Specialist at Anchorage Children’s Home. Afterwards, she worked at Maximus for several years, also in the area of customer service until March of 2024.

Adelia will be greatly missed by her family and close friends. She leaves to mourn her passing the following: Son, Edward Charles Honore, (Panama City); Daughter, Faith Lynnae Honore (Panama City); Sister, Ethel Lynne Connor, Ph.D. (Sunrise, FL); Granddaughter, Meshia Honore (Panama City); Nephew: Justin Connor, M.D. (Wilmington, DE), Great-Grandchildren; and several cousins and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held graveside Saturday, August 3rd at 11am at Sylvania AME Church Cemetery in Vernon, Florida with Superintendent Author Paul Reed, Jr., Elder Janeiro Johnson, Pastor Carlos Thomas and Superintendent Emeritus John M. Gipson officiating. Interment will follow with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
