Mrs. Gunter was my 7th grade teacher. What a very kind and inspiring educator. During my senior year, I applied for a scholarship to an organization that she was on the selection committee. I saw her downtown that morning that the committee was meeting for selecting the winner of the scholarship. I asked her, if my letter had been received. She said no, but they would wait until the mail came so that I would be considered for the scholarship. I won the scholarship that year!!! I was the first male ever to win a scholarship from that organization. What an honor. Those funds helped me to be able to pay for college my freshman year. I have never forgotten her kindness and compassion that enabled me to start my dream of obtaining a BS in Math/Computer Sci. I later completed a MBA. R.I.P. Mrs. Gunter, you will always be remembered by the many lives you touched in such a positive way.

To Mr. Gunter, Eric, Nikkie and the entire German and Gunter family. I met Mrs. Gunter for the first time when we went on a cruise together and when I relocated 13 yrs ago to Dillon, SC and joined Manning Baptist Church, she was one of the first people to come to me and reintroduced herself and told me that she had the upmost respect for my parents and my little sister Christi had a special place in her heart. Mrs. Gunter in her soft spoken voice walked up to me one Sunday and said listen young lady your mother is not a member of this church but me and Magnolia will stand in for her if we see you traveling wrong and I said yes mam. I watched as Mrs. Gunter served as one of our dedicated youth advisors and she had so much patience with the youth and she never raised her voice because I was a retired educator as she was and served as a youth advisor for over 20yrs and I felt like I raised my voice all day and she told me if you raised your voice and the students raised theirs nobody would hear what anybody said and I will always remember what she said because I have never, never heard her talk loud or raised her voice in all the years that I have known her. She was a dedicated choir member, a member of the birthday ministry and served in other ministries in the church. Even though our church family saw that she was feeling weak some Sunday mornings she was not only in Morning Services she was also in Sunday School and continued to served in her position on the birthday ministry from her seat in the congregation. Mrs. Gunter and I teased each other about not buying anymore shoes or pocketbooks, she was a sharp dresser at all times, I always told her that when I grew up I wanted to be like you and she told me to keep on living and continuing take the opportunity to enjoy myself and keep God first in my life. Mrs. Gunter asked me about two months ago how was my mom was doing and she told me to tell my mom that she loved her, the last Sunday that Mrs. Gunter attended church she told me to tell my mom she loved her. Mr. Gunter, God is going to blessed you in a special way for caring for your bride and your Queen until God sent his angels to call her home. Mrs. Gunter, you will be missed not only in Manning Baptist Church but in the entire Dillon County Community. Sleep on my dear friend and I will see you in the morning. Lisa Bartell Capers and daughter
