Ernest Williams, a beloved resident of the Bronx, NY, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, at St. Barnabas Hospital at the age of 68. Born on January 17, 1957, in the Bronx to Dick Williams and Josephine Curtis, Ernest was raised in a vibrant and close-knit family alongside his siblings: James, Gregory, Warren, Deborah (Enrique), Larry, and Hope, as well as his late siblings Patricia, Delores, Kibogoyo, Evelyn, and Ronald.
From a young age, Ernest displayed a natural talent for athletics, excelling in multiple sports. Basketball, in particular, held a special place in his heart, and his skill and dedication earned him numerous accolades throughout his youth. As he grew older, Ernest felt a calling to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army, where he carried out his duties with honor and distinction. Later in life, he dedicated many years to working at the Independent Living Facility, supporting underserved communities. His kindness and commitment made him a cherished figure both at work and throughout the Bronx.
Ernest’s greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Fatima Newby, whom he loved with all his heart. As a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, he treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren—Alshon Newby, Tieteanna Williams, and Miracle Gosier—and his great-grandchild, Jyzir Newby. Their laughter and presence brought him immeasurable happiness, and he took immense pride in being a part of their lives.
A man of varied passions, Ernest found peace in the great outdoors and comfort in the simple pleasures of home. He loved watching classic Western films and nostalgic TV shows, and he had a deep affection for animals—especially his cherished pet, Precious. Known for his warm presence, quick wit, and steadfast love for his family, Ernest was a pillar of strength and a source of joy to all who knew him.
Ernest leaves behind a legacy of devotion as a father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He will be forever remembered by his daughter, Fatima Newby; his adored grandchildren and great-grandchild; his surviving siblings; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives he touched with his generosity and spirit.
Though his loss will be deeply felt, Ernest’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Josephine, and his siblings Patricia, Delores, Kibogoyo, Evelyn, and Ronald. Ernest Williams will be missed dearly, but his light will never fade.
