Doc was born September 18, 1948 to his late parents, Robert Wayne Thompkins and Jessie England Thompkins in Jefferson City, Missouri. He fell asleep in death on Thursday, January 4, 2024.
He attended Jefferson City High School and Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO and went on to pursue a career in the Navy from 1968-1996.
He became a self-taught passionate wood worker and began working in various wood mill shops in the Durham area until his retirement in 2013.
He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on August 8, 2008 and was very devoted to his service for Jehovah as a “sound attendant” for several years.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 22 years, Carolyn Thompkins; one son, Adrian Thompkins (Monique) of Minneapolis, MN; two stepdaughters, Trishelle Dixon and Monica Dixon of Durham, NC; one sister, Jackie Martin (Buster) of Jefferson City, MO; his close cousin (which he called his sister), Carol Thompkins of Kansas City, KS; eight grandchildren, Jalen, Adasia, Ashyla, Justin, Aniyah, Austyn, Aaryn and Rhys.
Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
My deepest condolences to the Thompkins Family. I met Doc through his wife, Carolyn, who has been one of my besties since 1978. Doc was brilliant working with wood, he made me a gorgeous cutting board that I refuse to use because it was so special. When my husband was deployed, Doc was nice enough to assist with picking out a lot for our home; he did an outstanding job! He is missed. Carolyn, I am here to support you through this loss and beyond. We pray for you daily❤
Doc, I really miss you so much right now; but I know I will see you again real soon! Love always, Your wife, Carolyn!

Our sincere sympathies go out to the Thompkins Family. As neighbors, "Doc" was a friendly and helpful person; always willing to lend a helping hand, and always courteous in his interactions with others. I'll miss him waving and speaking to me as I'd be on my weekly walks. Please know that he will be sorely missed by all who had the fortune and pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace and may God ease the pain of your loss. Neighbors; Golda and Abdul Ellis
