Mrs. Mary Henry Taylor was born on November 21, 1945, to the parentage of the late Mrs. Lovie Henry Blackshear and the late Mr. Willie James Henry, Sr., in Pinehurst, Georgia. Mary received her formal education at Vienna Industrial High School in Vienna, Georgia, and graduated with the class of 1965. She furthered her education at Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, Georgia, where she obtained an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
Mary Taylor accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and joined Rock Springs Baptist Church in Pinehurst, Georgia. She moved her membership to Forest Chapel Baptist Church when Rock Springs closed. She worked faithfully as member of Forest, where she served as Senior Choir President, Youth Department Assistant, Mission Department President, and performed many other Christian duties, including serving on the Deacon Wives Ministry. She extended her service to the Georgia Union Missionary Baptist Association, where she served faithfully for many years, completing different duties, including being Women’s Auxiliary President, Time-Place Committee Secretary, and Field Worker for the Association. She gave genuine love and helped everyone she could. She was known all over the Middle Georgia area for her singing. She sang at many weddings, funerals, and gospel events. She truly believed in fulfilling GOD’s word, especially Matthew 25:34-36, “Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.” This is the mission she worked, and her favorite scripture was Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Mary Henry was united in holy matrimony with John W. Taylor, Jr., on January 21, 1967, in Pinehurst, Georgia. They were married for 54 years, and their union was blessed with five children: Angela (Andre) Taylor of Warner Robins, GA, Anthony (Serita) Taylor of Unadilla, GA, Andrew (Josephine) Taylor, Sr., of McDonough, GA, Amelia (Sterling) Hayward of Unadilla, GA, and Anita (James) Smith of Abbeville, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Andrew Taylor, Jr. She leaves precious memories with her husband; five children; two adopted children, Cynthia (Johnny Pate) Kendrick and Antonio (Cynthia) Granville; 18 grandchildren, Alishia, Andre Jr., Kierra, Anthony Jr., Alex, Michael, Christopher, Sterling Jr., Christopher, Amary, James III, Jacie, Jackson, Jamaul, Jaimee, and Jaidon; one great-grandson, Tommy Lee III; three loving brothers, Willie James (Susie) Henry, Jr., of Warner Robins, GA, Carl (Gwen) Henry, Sr., of Unadilla, GA, and Willie Mac (Barbara) Henry of Montrose, GA; sisters-in-laws, Mrs. Rosemary Fleming of Pittsburg, PA, Amanda (Rufus) Crane of Warner Robins, GA, Geneva Green of Albany, GA, Mattie Flag of Atlanta, GA, and Annie Jean (Donnie) Gaye of Atlanta, GA; brothers-in-law, Melvin Taylor of Unadilla, GA, Clinnie (Betty) Taylor of Ft. Myers, FL, Walter Taylor of Perry, GA, and Ron Edwards of Elko, GA; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many sorrowing and beloved friends. She had such special relationships with so many, and she called Mr. John Law (Bud) her brother and Mrs. Willie Pearl Thorpe (Pearl) her sister.
