On Sunday, November 13, 2022, our lives were changed forever. Our patriarch, our dad, Deacon Chester McWilliams, Sr., answered the call from labor to reward. Deacon Chester McWilliams, Sr., was born September 15, 1934, to the parentage of the late Calvin Williams, Sr., and Mattie Marie McWilliams. He was the eighth of twelve children, ten of whom preceded him in death: Addie Holmes, Versa Jordan, Calvin McWilliams, Jr., Eugene McWilliams, Henry McWilliams, Mattie Buckholts, Vester McWilliams, Albert McWilliams, Archie McWilliams, and Watson McWillliams. He accepted Christ at a very early age and joined the Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Pinehurst, Georgia, where he served as a deacon for over forty years. He also served as church financial treasurer. In his earlier years, he was known as the church “repair man,” always eager to fix whatever he could. He was also a member of Franklin Lodge #210 of Unadilla, Georgia. Deacon McWilliams was educated in the Dooly County public school system. He was a proud member of Vienna High School, and he graduated with the class of 1952 as the valedictorian. After graduation, he attended the Fort Valley State College, until he was entrusted by his father to support the family. This led to his employment at the Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia, where he served faithfully for thirty-five years. He retired in 1989 as a civil servant. In 1956, he was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Bobbie Jean Shaw McWilliams. After fifty-seven years of marriage, she gained her wings and went home to be with the Lord. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory and continue his legacy: his loving and devoted children, Barbara A. (John) Collier, Chester, Jr. (Deborah), McWilliams, Dr. Beverly M. (Royce) Bolden, Sandra McWilliams, Scottie L. (Kimberly) McWilliams, Lorenzo (Andrea) McWilliams, Sharekia Y. McWilliams, and Terry (Celestine) Lester; his only surviving loving sister, Eunice McWilliams Blackshear; two dedicated sisters-in-law, Mamie R. McWilliams and Martha Shaw; one loving aunt, Jodie B. Marchmann; twentythree grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews who considered him more of a father figure than an uncle; and a host of cousins, sorrowing loved ones, and friends.
