Funeral services for Garner “Dr. Scoop” McMillian will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Allendale Community Funeral with Reverend Bernice Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Second Mount Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Garner “Dr. Scoop” McMillian, age 64, was born July 28, 1953 to Mamie Smoaks Graham and the late Willie “Bub” McMillian. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, the late Freddie Graham. Seeking God’s guidance at an early age, he joined the Second Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Garner received his formal education in the public schools of Allendale County. In 1973, he enlisted in the United States Marines. He was honorably discharged and received the National Defense Service Medal. Garner worked as a laborer for DuCane in Blackville, South Carolina, Georgia Pacific in Rincon, Georgia and was also a painter for several years. He was an avid fisherman and had a love for cooking and music. He would always say one of his favorite lines: “Wha you mean?”, “I can’t tell” or “You stab” when greeting his family and friends. Garner was first married in Holy Matrimony to the late Robin Monroe McMillian and to this union three children were born. On July 28, 2012, he married the former Shirley Priester. Garner’s earthly scene came to a close on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 6:24 a.m. at the VA Army Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. Cherishing his loving memories are his loving mother, Mamie S. Graham of Allendale, SC; wife, Shirley Priester of Atlanta, GA; six daughters: Latoyna McMillian, Roslyn McMillian, Sedia Doe, Roteika Devoe, Sherry Badger and Tysa Kearse; four sons: Jerome K. McMillian, Garder Doe Dwanne Devoe and Eddie Sabb; five stepchildren: Damein Priester, Dominique Carter, Sylvia Carter, Sophia Carter and Latifah Carter; five sisters: Mable (Louis) Dix, Malinda (Bentrice) Frazier, Willa Youmans all of Allendale, SC Teresa Lott of Ulmer, SC and Beverly Gray of Columbia, SC; two brothers: McCorskey (Barbara) Graham of Allendale, SC and Tyrone (Lula) Montague of Eden, GA; four aunts; two uncles; 15 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends including a dear friend of 32 years Rosa Mae Doe. Visitation will be held from 11:00 – 7:00 pm on Today July 6, 2018 at the funeral home.
