Lois Purnell Carter Williams (known as Purnell to her friends and family) passed away quietly on Saturday, April 27, 2019. She was born in Martinsville, Virginia on August 10, 1921 to the late William Floyd and Lucille Hobson Carter. Her husband of 58 years, Clyde L. Williams, Sr., preceded her in death. She was the eldest and longest living of all of her three siblings; sister, Myrtle C. Dabney and brothers, William "Tony" Carter and Frank Sherman Carter.

She leaves to mourn her passing three children; Lois W. Jones (Daniel), Catherine "Kitty" Seay (Luther), and Clyde Williams, Jr. (Charmion), three grandchildren: Daniel "Monty" Jones (Tammy), Luther Seay, Jr., and Kimbreli S. Hall (Demetrius), and four great grandchildren: Daniel Christopher Jones, Kimbry'l Ilexis Martin, Eyann Malik Martin, Kourtni Sanai Rouster, and many loving nieces and nephews.

As a child Purnell professed faith in Christ, was baptized and joined Grace Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for 91 years. Her parents, husband, children and many aunts and uncles also were baptized Grace Members. She was a devoted wife and a loving and understanding mother and friend.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at The C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin G. Perry, Officiating. Family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in Hobson Family Cemetery.
