On July 23, 1951, Shirley Lee (Rhodes) Wynn was born in Greene County, Georgia to the late Bill Rhodes, Sr., and the late Essie (Stephens) Rhodes. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Jerry M. Wynn Jr., her sister, Mary Frances Rhodes; her brothers, James David (JD) Broomfield, Bill Rhodes Jr., and James (Pookie) Rhodes.
In her early years of life, she joined Mount Enon Baptist Church and later attended Ebenezer A. M. E. Church, where she served and attended faithfully until her health declined. She served as a primary Sunday School Teacher for many years, YDP director, as well as, sung in the Church Choir.
Shirley was educated in the Greene County School System and graduated from F. T, Carry High School in 1969. After graduation, she went on to further her education at Albany State College, where she received a B.S. degree in Psychology. Upon returning to Greene County, she started her teaching career working with students with special needs. She continued her education by obtaining a Master of Education degree from the University of Georgia. Shirley served as a teacher for 34 years in the Greene County School System, receiving many awards and accolades. After retirement, she transitioned to politics, serving as the first Black Female City Council Member serving for 20 years.
She was a member of the Greene County Retired Education, The Order of Eastern Stars, and a founding member of the Lake Oconee Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, exceptional sister and aunt, a kind loving soul and a good friend.
On Monday, April 14, 2025, Shirley was called home to eternal peace, She leaves to cherish her memories two sons: Jamel T. Wynn (Jermica} of Danielsville, GA and Carlos M. Wynn (Kesha) at Statham, GA.; four granddaughters: Taelor, Oliviyah, Iyana and Londyn; one sister, Evelyn (Glenn) Wright of Greensboro, GA; four sisters-in-law: Joyce C, Rhodes of Brunswick, GA, Nettle Mae Wynn of White Plains, GA, Annie (Ulysses) Smith of Athens, Georgia, Julia (Ricky) White of Greensboro, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
