The funeral services for the late Ms. Chiquita Michele Greene, who departed this life on Sunday, April 6, 2025, will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from the Unity Baptist Church, 101 Bryant Drive, Sylvester, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Shepard Memorial Garden Cemetery in Sylvester, Georgia. Chiquita Michele Greene, affectionately known as “Michele,” was born on May 5, 1977 to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. and Earnestine Greene in Sylvester, GA. She was a proud and devoted daughter, an educator, trailblazer, and servant leader. She was indeed a beacon of scholarship, sisterhood, and service.

At an early age, she confessed Christ as her personal Savior. She joined New Providence Baptist Church in Sylvester, GA and served on the Usher Board. She was a faithful and dedicated member.

A 1995 graduate of Worth County High School, Chiquita made history as the first African American member of the school’s dance team. She went on to become a double alumna and Lifetime Member of Albany State University Alumni Association. She earned her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education and later pursued advanced degrees in Education and Leadership from Wheelock College, Walden University, Georgia Southern, and Northcentral University.

As a Dougherty County School System (DCSS) educator, Chiquita served with excellence at MLK Elementary, Albany Early College, and Westover High School. At Westover, she was named 2018–2019 Teacher of the Year and a finalist for DCSS Teacher of the Year. Over her career, in Dougherty, Savannah-Chatham, and Glynn counties, she worked as an Early Intervention (EIP), Gifted, and English Language Arts Teacher. Chiquita held many leadership roles: English Department Chair, School Improvement Specialist, 6th Grade Specialist, Teacher Support Specialist, Graduation Coach, Academic Coach, and Instructional Coach. She was also an advisor to the Delta GEMS, EMBODI, and Black History Quiz Bowl Team.

During her tenure, the Albany (GA) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta was honored as a 2021–2022 Red Ribbon Chapter. Her leadership also saw the issuance of a mayoral proclamation recognizing Albany native and Delta Sigma Theta cofounder, Osceola Macarthy Adams. Additionally, the chapter experienced growth through reclamation efforts, and the petition for a historical marker in honor of Adams is currently underway. She also served as co-advisor to the Delta Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. located on the campus of Albany State University.

Chiquita’s heart for community was unmatched. Her service has included: President of Albany (GA) Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.;

Chapter, ASU Alumni Association; Board Member-at-Large of ASU National Alumni Association; Vice President of Worth County Rams Alumni Reunion, Inc.; Fundraising Co-Chair of Ma Flora’s Helping Hands; Secretary of Marching Rams Show Band National Alumni Association; Worthy Matron of Pride of Sylvester #477, O.E.S.; Advisor to the Royal Dolls Flag Line, Tau Beta Sigma Band Sorority, and Delta Rho Chapter of Albany State University; Secretary of the Marching Rams Show Band National Alumni Association; and a member of Worth County NAACP.

She was also the proud recipient of many honors, including: 2021 Trellis Cuffie Volunteer Award; 2021 Multicultural Award, GA Council of Teachers of English; 2021 Distinguished Delta Award; Albany Herald’s 40 Under 40; Albany State University’s 50 Under 50; 2017 Albany State University “A Future to Fulfill” Award; Leadership Academy for Women of Small-town America – Class of 2016; 2007 Caring Person in the Community- Brunswick, GA; and 2016 DCSS Leadership Academy Selectee.

Chiquita was passionate about reading, teaching flag and dance, and spending cherished time with loved ones. She was a teacher, a leader, a mentor, a friend, and an extraordinary woman whose light will never dim.

On the morning of April 6, 2025, our dearly beloved Chiquita Michele Greene received her Godly summons that her earthly works was completed and entered into rest. She was proceeded in death by her grandparents, Dorothy L. Smith, T. W. and Mildred Greene, and her brother, Arthur Warren.

She leaves to cherish beautiful memories: her parents: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. and Earnestine B. Greene, Sylvester, GA; grandparent: Mr. Lacy Lee Smith, Sylvester, GA; siblings: Buffy L. Walker (John), Sylvester; Daryl D. Warren (Cheryl), Fayetteville, GA; and Riccardo C. Greene (Yvette), Warner Robins, GA; nieces and nephews: Denell, Dexter, Akenyon, Shakeria, Key’morie, Daryl, Jr. (DJ), Tiana, Nicole, Shaneqa, Latisha, Arthur, Ashanti, Alissa, Ashley, Jedyah, and Riccardo, Jr. (RJ); a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and sorrowing friends. May her memory continue to inspire, and her legacy continue to lead.
