A BRIEF HISTORICAL ACCOUNT OF ANTOINE DARGAN, Sr. (aka Sarge)

And, God saw everything that He had made, and [created in Antoine] and beheld, it was very good and He validated. . . Antoine, completely. Genesis 1:31. AMP Angels sang when Antoine Evander Dargan, Sr. was born on July 23, 1958, to the late Thomas Evander Dargan and Hazel Mae (Smith) Dargan in Newport News, Virginia. They soon relocated to Greensboro, NC, where Antoine, the third of six children (Eric, Neil, Antoine, Rene, Michelle, and Lydia) would be raised, and where he would attend Gillespie Middle and Dudley High Schools, then years later taking courses at GTCC.

Some of the most memorable and notable highlights of Antoine's earthly life was: attending school, delivering newspapers, a good neighbor, Mrs. King; becoming a super swimmer champion with Hayes Taylor YMCA, becoming a Marine. While living in different cities as well as other countries he also enjoyed travelling to places such as Alaska, Japan, Hawaii, The Coast of Africa, Cuba, having countless narratives about his adventures and experiences. Additional highlights were: his two children, Antoine Jr. & Brittani, both being born on his birthday through his previous union with their mother Valerie; his entrepreneurial endeavors in cooking & selling seafood, and in subcontracting; his career at Gilbarco, and in retail; his german shepherd, Luke; coaching little league football, with several coaches, winning numermous championships; receiving Salvation; attending and working in several churches; finding and marrying the earthly love of his life, Jada; her family, especially her mom, and her extended family, along with the friends they met during their marriage; their K-9s, Dude and Bella; fellowshipping with family, and with friends; Bethel Colony of Mercy; Marked Men for Christ; receiving a recovery coach certification in Boca Raton, FL; going to gyms such as Hayes-Taylor YMCA, and Club Fitness; becoming an associate pastor at House of Refuge Ministries (2011-2024), and the Founding Lead Pastor of Jesus is Love Ministries in 2022.

Some of Pastor Antoine’s favorite hobbies and pastimes for recreation were: golfing (prior to back surgery), cooking/grilling, fishing, eating out with friends and family, breakfast being one of his favorite meals of the day; watching his favorite TV shows (e.g. westerns, Andy Griffith, Survivor); travelling; listening to music, he was also a devoted fan of The Washington Redskins/ Commanders; life coaching, encouraging, ministering and praying - Honoring his Heavenly Father.

Pastor Antoine’s greatest mission and purpose in life was cultivating FRIENDSHIP. Every adjective, antonym, and word that describes “friendship,” Antoine embodied and personified. Antoine was gifted with strength in so many ways, and relationships was one of them. Yet, the most important relationship Antoine pursued, cultivating daily, is his relationship with God. Daily, early in the morning he could be found sitting up on the side of the bed praying, or in his favorite chair. He was a good communicator: vocalizing himself well with his wife, loved ones, friends, people, and most of all in his prayers, communicating with God; whether intimately, and/or on behalf of his family, friends, others or circumstances. Antoine’s heart capacity was large.

He leaves to cherish his memories, the earthly love of his life, his wife, Jada; along with immediate and extended Family and Friends he gained during their marriage. He also leaves his two children Antoine, Jr.(Cherish)and Brittani (Michael); eleven grandchildren (Antoine Jr’s: Zaniyah, Benjamin,Gia,Noah, and Madilynn) (Brittani’s: Khíara, Enzo, Michael, Imberlynn, Elijah and Naomi) ; three brothers (Eric, Neal, and Rene), two sisters (Michelle and Lydia); a special Aunt, Shirley; and, many relatives and friends.

Antoine was truly a coach and leader, with a pastor’s heart - traits that make for a good friend.

Some of Antoine’s favorite sayings were: ~“I don’t sugar-coat it!” “Pray without ceasing.”~ Pastor Antoine Evander Dargan, Sr. A man gifted from above with unparallel peace, strength, and ability to cultivate friendships.

2 Corinthians (2 Co) 5:1-21 CJB, A Scripture in His Honor [1] We know that when the tent which houses us here on earth is torn down, we have a permanent building from God, a building not made by human hands, to house us in heaven. [2] For in this tent, our earthly body, we groan with desire to have around us the home from heaven that will be ours. [3] With this around us we will not be found naked. [4] Yes, while we are in this body, we groan with the sense of being oppressed: it is not so much that we want to take something off, but rather to put something on over it; so that what must die may be swallowed up by the Life. [5] Moreover, it is God who has prepared us for this very thing, and as a pledge he has given us his Spirit. [6] So we are always confident — we know that so long as we are at home in the body, we are away from our home with the Lord; [7] for we live by trust, not by what we see. [8] We are confident, then, and would much prefer to leave our home in the body and come to our home with the Lord. [9] Therefore, whether at home or away from home, we try our utmost to please him; [10] for we must all appear before the Messiah’s court of judgment, where everyone will receive the good or bad consequences of what he did while he was in the body. [11] So it is with the fear of the Lord before us that we try to persuade people. Moreover, God knows us as we really are; and I hope that in your consciences you too know us as we really are. [12] We are not recommending ourselves to you again but giving you a reason to be proud of us, so that you will be able to answer those who boast about a person’s appearance rather than his inner qualities. [13] If we are insane, it is for God’s sake; and if we are sane, it is for your sake. [14] For the Messiah’s love has hold of us, because we are convinced that one man died on behalf of all mankind (which implies that all mankind was already dead), [15] and that he died on behalf of all in order that those who live should not live any longer for themselves, but for the one who on their behalf died and was raised. [16] So from now on, we do not look at anyone from a worldly viewpoint. Even if we once regarded the Messiah from a worldly viewpoint, we do so no longer. [17] Therefore, if anyone is united with the Messiah, he is a new creation — the old has passed; look, what has come is fresh and new! [18] And it is all from God, who through the Messiah has reconciled us to himself and has given us the work of that reconciliation, [19] which is that God in the Messiah was reconciling mankind to himself, not counting their sins against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. [20] Therefore we are ambassadors of the Messiah; in effect, God is making his appeal through us. What we do is appeal on behalf of the Messiah, “Be reconciled to God! [21] God made this sinless man be a sin offering on our behalf, so that in union with him we might fully share in God’s righteousness.”
