Mr. Jamie Fitzgerald Bennett Sr. was born to James Bennett and the late Shirley Lindsey Bennett on March 6, 1969 in Chesterfield County, SC. He peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Atrium Health Union in Monroe, NC, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and dedication.
Jamie joined Streater Grove AME Zion Church in Morven, NC, at an early age. His unwavering commitment to the church was evident through his various roles, where he served faithfully as the Chair of the Kitchen Hospitality Committee, Program Rally Calendar Committee, Treasurer for the Cemetery Committee, Trustee Board, and Vice Chair of the Steward Board.
Jamie was educated in the public schools of Anson County and graduated from Anson Senior High, Class of 1988. Jamie retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation District 3, Union County, in 2021. He was also a retired volunteer fireman with Morven Fire Department. After retiring, he continued to work part-time at Robbie Hill Trucking in Wadesboro NC. He was the current Policy Platform Chair and Immediate Past Chairperson for District 11 State Employee Association of North Carolina.
On July 3, 1988, he was united in holy matrimony to Carrie Willoughby Bennett and to this union three children were born. His profound love and devotion as a husband and father were evident in his daily life and interactions.
Jamie was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Lindsey Bennett (2022), brother, Richard Moore (2025), and brother-in-law, Artis Willoughby Jr. (2016).
Left to forever his memories are his loving and devoted wife, Carrie Willoughby Bennett of the home; three children, Katrisa Willoughby, Charlotte NC, Takesha Bennett Wall (Terry) Wadesboro, NC and Jamie Fitzgerald Bennett Jr., Morven, NC; bonus sons, Christopher “DJ” Ellerbe, Maurice Copeland Jr. and Mauricus Collins; bonus Daughters, Jessica Collins and Mauricia Copeland; father, James Thomas; grandchildren: Dymond Webster, Ca’Niyua Webster, Da’Rehunia Webster, Darryl Webster Jr, Ty’Reonia Wall, Taliah Wall, Zamir Bennett, Landen Harrington, John Salinas Jr, Jamie Bennett III, Julianna Bennett and one great grand, Lai’Ontae Little Jr.
His siblings, Rhonda Bennett and Gary Bennett; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Artis and Mary Willoughby, brothers-in-law, Derrick Willoughby, Levonnia Lindsey ( Brandon), and Keith Harrell (Andrea). A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends, including a special friend, Chester Bennett.
The Services to Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mr. Bennett will be on Saturday, April 12, 2025, 2:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow the services at the Streater Grove A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery, Morven, North Carolina.
The services will be livestreamed on Facebook H.C. Smith Funeral Home.
The Bennett Family will greet family and friends on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 1:30-2:00pm at Smith's Memorial Chapel and at all other times at the family residence in Morven, North Carolina beginning Friday, April 4, 2025 from 4:00-7:00pm and at all other times as designated by the Bennett family
The public viewing will be on Friday, April 11, 2025 from 3:00-6:00pm at Smith's Funeral Home.
