Obituary for Carl Killa” Penerton

Carl”Killa” Penerton, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished son, and loyal friend was born to his beloved mother Carrie L. Penerton on April 1, 1961 in Troy, Alabama, and moved to Homestead, Florida, at the age of 7. He attended A.L. Lewis Elementary, Homestead Jr. High School, and South Dade Senior High School, later furthering his education at Iowa State University.

Carl was the loving husband of 38 years to Linda Penerton and the proud father of son, Tawarren Cordy, daughters, Tekeyla Cordy, Shenara Cordy, Goddaughter, Andrea Rowe, and grandchildren Ashari Penerton, Isaiah Penerton, Aniya Mota, Aliyus Mota, and Olivia Mota. He will always be remembered by his mother, Carrie L. Penerton and siblings Charles Penerton, Kenneth Penerton, Hildra Penerton, Deborah Penerton Moment, and Cynthia Penerton Brooks (James) and many nieces and nephews.

From a young age, Carl exhibited a strong sense of responsibility, serving as a school crossing guard at just eight years old. He was also involved in the Boy Scouts, where he developed valuable skills and lifelong friendships.

Carl shared a special bond with his Godmother, Lucille Grier, and his Godbrother, JB Stephenson. His Godsisters Kelly S., Karen H., Beverly H., Annie S., Ruby R. and Norris R. were also an integral part of his life. Carl adored his two special nieces, Chandra Thomas and Marqueisha Brown, who brought joy to his heart.

Carl cherished the friendships he formed throughout his life and is remembered fondly by his best friends James Gold, Xavier T., Dennis J., Juan R., Mike G., Willie W., and many others who were touched by his kindness and generosity.

Professionally, Carl dedicated his career to Miami Dade County Public Schools, where he influenced the lives of countless students and families.

Carl was very passionate about going to yard sales and would wake up very early to get the best stuff. He would even bribe family members to get up early to go with him, and you had to be ready before dawn.

He was also a devoted pet owner, sharing his life with his beloved pet Dutch, along with two other special pets, Fluffy and Showtime who preceded him in death. Carl's love for animals was a testament to his compassionate spirit. His favorite saying was “ Dogs listen and they don’t talk back.”

Carl was preceded in death by his Godmother, Millie Reid, Godbrother Jessie W., and Godsisters Rudine C. and Sylvia P. He was also preceded in death by two special friends Jimmy “Doc” Williams and Lewis Jordan . Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved them.

Carl Penerton’s legacy will continue through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched along his journey. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Rest in peace, Carl. You will always remain in our hearts.

Home going services for Mr. Carl Penerton will be held on Saturday, March 29 at 3:30 P. M. at North Valdosta Church of God Rev. Quarterman is the pastor and will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Memorial Garden.
