Robert Elvin Banks (Butch) was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to the late Harry Banks and the late Reba I. Geary.
Butch grew up in the Uptown area of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where he received his early education. He was a 1961 graduate of the former William Penn High School. After graduating, he joined the United States Marine Corps.
During his time in the Marine Corp he received various medals and badges including “The Good Conduct Medal” along with “The Marksmanship Badge”. He was honorably discharged in 1965.
Following his honorable discharge, he obtained his Commercial Driver's License and established a career in the transportation industry. He retired from driving in 2016 from Madison Intermobil as he wanted to devote more time to his grandchildren, Dasani & Damari Banks.
Butch enjoyed football, he was a BIG TIME Eagles fan. He also enjoyed basketball, camping, watching movies, driving, music, having a good time, but most importantly being there to watch his grandkids grow.
At the age of 82 years, he transitioned from this earthly life into eternal life on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Banks; his mother, Reba I. Geary; his sister, Barbara J Stewart and his godchild, Alzerene Pierce. He is survived by his sons, Dashon “Lil Butch” Banks and Derrick Edrington; his daughters, Yvette and Tanya Banks; his brother, Mike Reed; his sisters, Teresa Reed, Charlene Reed, Vicki Williams and Andrea Thomilson; his grandchildren, Dasani, Damari , Kanen, Gianna Tavian and Tavis Banks, Rochelle Edrington, Lee Monet Edrington, Emerelle Smalls, Justin Wadley and Christian Auter; his great grandchildren, Sedik Banks, Charity Banks and Jaiden Banks; his stepdaughter, Nicole Wadley; children of the heart, Sharare Badget, Asia Carter, Barronesha Brown and James Wright; his god-children, Alonda Burston and Zania Pierce and a host of other relatives and friends.
Butch had a heart of gold, one of kind smile and an infectious laugh he will be deeply missed by a lot of people.
His life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
