Savannah Sellers

08/11/1946 - 02/25/2025

On the beautiful, sunny morning of Tuesday, February 25, 2025, an angel whispered softly “come with me”. Savannah Sellers, a cherished resident of Birmingham, AL, answered the call. Born on Sunday, August 11, 1946, in Montgomery, AL, a city she always carried in her heart even as she made Birmingham, AL her home. She graced this world for 78 vibrant years.

Savannah was baptized at Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church in Montgomery, AL at an early age. She had fond memories of participating in Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, practicing for the Easter and Christmas programs, singing in the children’s choir and participating in the Buds of Promise.

“Baby Sister”, as she was affectionately known, had a journey through life that was marked by her achievements and service. She graduated from Carver High School in Montgomery, AL, in 1964, and continued her education at Tuskegee University (formerly Tuskegee Institute), where she earned a BA in Business Administration in 1970. Savannah dedicated her professional life to serving the public, most notably as a mail handler with the US Postal Service and as a tax clerk for the Internal Revenue Service. She offered her business expertise to Oink’s Bar-B-Que and Barnyard Chicken in previous years.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Savannah found joy and passion in her leisure pursuits. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed jazz music. An enthusiastic Alabama football fan, Savannah relished every game day, wearing her crimson and white with pride. Known for her brilliant mind, she was a Sudoku whiz, tackling each puzzle with unmatched determination and skill.

Savannah was the beloved daughter of the late Jesse and Hattie Sellers. She was preceded in death by her cherished siblings, Dosha Sellers, Ruby Glenn, Mose Sellers, Willie Howard, Johnny Howard and Lorene King. Her memories will be cherished by siblings: Jesse (the late Gertrude) Sellers of Fayetteville, NC; Estella Sellers of Montgomery, AL; Johnny (Carolyn) Sellers of Killeen, TX; Deloris Sellers (the late Cuviere, Sr.) Terry of Talladega, AL; Herman (Terri) Sellers of Montgomery, AL; Brenda G. Winston of Birmingham, AL; Lillie (Jerome) Thompson and Mary Ann (Robert) Johnson of Montgomery, AL; and sisters-in-law, Beulah Sellers, Gloria Howard and Mary Howard of Montgomery, AL. Savannah was a nurturing figure to her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, along with the joy-filled company of her great-great-great-nieces and nephews. Her family, alongside countless cousins, friends and a cherished community, will remember her fondly.

While Savannah has departed from this physical world, her memory, her love for family and her joyful spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May her soul rest in peace.
