On Monday, February 17, 2025, Deacon Melvin C. Thomas, 80, of Trott Circle, transitioned peacefully at SOVAH Health-Martinsville. He was born in Henry County, VA on January 19, 1945, to the late Junious W. Thomas and Pattie Spencer Thomas.
Melvin was a faithful member of Shiloh Way of the Cross Church of Christ of the Apostolic Doctrine where he served as a Deacon, a member of the Golden Sanctuary Voices of Praise Choir, an Usher, and a Sunday School Teacher. He retired from Fieldcrest Cannon after many years of service.
Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Margaret H. Thomas of the home; three sons, Melvin C. Thomas (Donna) of Martinsville, VA, Victor O. Thomas (Kim) of Lawrenceville, GA and Bryan B. Thomas (Charmaine) of Blacksburg, VA; one daughter, Terronica Wisu (Anselem) of Lawrenceville, GA; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Vera Reynolds, Velma Joyce, Macie Florence, Renniette Thomas and Vivian Thomas all of Martinsville, VA; two brothers, Marshall Thomas (Mary) of Ridgeway, VA, Lander Thomas of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. with the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Way of the Cross Church of Christ of the Apostolic Doctrine, 938 Brookdale St., Martinsville with Presiding Bishop Earley Dillard, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway, Dr., Martinsville.
A public viewing will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will be present during this time. Other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 35 Trott Circle beginning of Friday, February 21, 2025, only from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home live via Facebook.
