Jonathan A. Bates, "Tony", was called into eternal rest on January 5, 2025 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. Tony was born on August 22, 1975 in Spartanburg, SC and went to Dorman High School.
Tony was the treasured husband of Brandy Bates of Spartanburg, SC and the beloved, only son of Lovie Bates of Spartanburg, SC.

He leaves behind six children: Jonathan Bates Jr, "TJ"; Marcus Brown; Anijah (Doyell) Brewton; Kierra Manigan; Brianna Tucker; and Jasia Bates, all of Spartanburg, SC. He also leaves behind one granddaughter, Kalani Brewton; sister, Tko Gist; and godmother Vera Ware. He was predeceased by his father, Gerald Bates.Tony has a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will always remember him for his smiles and laughter. Tony loved his family and friends and they take comfort in knowing he is finally at rest.

Family is currently at his mother's home receiving friends.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 12, 2025 beginning at 4 pm in the chapel.

Funeral Service will be Monday, January 13, 2025 at 1 pm at First Baptist Church of Fairforest in Spartanburg, SC. Burial will be immediately following service at Good Shepherd Memorial Park in Boiling Springs, SC. Family will advise of any changes pending weather and thanks everyone for the outpouring of love and support.
