William McKinley Spencer Jr. was born on August 27, 1953, in High Point, North Carolina to the union of William Spencer and Marion Jean Spencer.
William attended T. Wingate Andrews High School (Class of 71) and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. (AGGIE PRIDE) He enlisted in the US Marine Corps, following in the footsteps of his father who was a Montford Point Marine. Sergeant
Spencer served his country honorably during the Vietnam War and retired as a disabled veteran.
After leaving the Marine Corps, he began a career with the United States Postal Service where he
retired after serving 34 years in several positions in the American Postal Workers Union.
William was a faithful member of Memorial United Methodist Church of High Point. He served
in the men’s choir, usher board, executive council, trustee board and President of the United
Methodist Men.
William was very active in his community. He was a founding member of BOTSO (Brothers Organized to Save Others), Life member of the Montford Point Marines Association, Disabled American Veterans Association (Service Officer), American Legion, and served on several boards and commissions. William is the recipient of numerous honors. He received the Pillars of Fame Award given by the City of High Point for his outstanding service with military veterans.
He received the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor on behalf of his father, an original Montford Point Marine, from President Barack Obama. He and Irish started FASK (Families Against Senseless Killings).
On December 28, 2024, William departed this early life. He was preceded in death by his
parents: William Spencer Sr. and Marion Jean Spencer; one sister: Joyce Lynette Spencer and
beloved son William M. Spencer III (Tre’).
He leaves to cherish his memories with his loving wife, Dr. Irish Spencer: daughter Raeven
Spencer. Four loving siblings: Janice Davis (Craig), Lorenza Keith Spencer, Dale Spencer, Ivan
Trent Spencer (Stephanie) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends,including lifelong friend Karl Wayne Walker.
