Mr. Melvin Winford Price Jr. affectionately known as “June Bug” was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, 56, peacefully passed away at his home on Monday, December 9, 2024. He was born in High Point, NC on July 30, 1968, to the late Melvin W. Price Sr. and Jo Ann Miller Price.
He attended High Point Central High School and later obtained his G.E.D.
Melvin was a devoted family man, and a dedicated Over the-Road Truck Driver. Melvin retired in 2018 from City Transfer and Storage in Winston Salem, NC as a Warehouse Manager after 30 years of service. He traveled from coast to coast enjoying the scenery while bringing souvenirs and treats home to his children. He especially enjoyed driving in the rain and snow; no form of weather kept him from his destination.
He loved fishing, working on complex puzzles and was a connoisseur of all things, “moon pies, hot dogs and fish sandwiches”. In his pastime, Melvin enjoyed watching Sanford and Son, Andy Griffith shows, and old and new Western shows. Win or lose, he was a dedicated Carolina Panther’s fan.
Melvin shared a deep and special bond with his family, especially his father, with whom he enjoyed many fishing trips, and his dear cousins, whom he considered siblings.
His love for his family and friends was unwavering, and his joyful spirit and sense of humor will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He often shared that he should have had grandchildren first because they brought so much joy and laughter to him and he said, “they were the best cuddlers”.
Melvin’s thoughtful gestures, the laughter he shared during everyday moments, his dedication to family, his gentle touch, the comfort he provided, and the special moments built together throughout the years will be greatly missed. Most importantly, he taught his children patience, empathy and understanding.
In addition to his parents Melvin Jr. was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Anthony Price and sister, Melanie Price-Johnson-Bailey.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memories to his devoted wife of 30 years, Tawana Price of the home; one daughter, Cyre’ Price-Pearson (Dytosh Sr.) of Greensboro, NC; and one son, Melvin (Tre’) Price III (Shay) of High Point, NC; five grandchildren, Dytosh Jr, Xayana, Xavier, Gianna, and Thyri; and a host of nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
His impact extended far beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of
knowing him.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Guil-Rand Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
