Toni Pauline Brown, of Canton OH, passed away on December 3, 2024, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy. Toni was born on April 20, 1952, to Ellis George Fields Sr. and Rosie Kay Jones in Orville OH. Toni Pauline, as she was affectionately called, was a daughter, sister, mother and friend like no other.
Faith was very integral in Toni’s life, and she joined church at an early age at Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Pow. In recent years she united with the Word Harvest Church under Pastor L. W. Bolton III's leadership.
Toni was a licensed cosmetologist, matriculating from Dudley Cosmetology University in Greensboro, NC. Toni's artistry in hairstyling was not just an occupation; it was a reflection of her vibrant spirit. She was the epitome of what Natalie Cole melody “Sophisticated Lady,” as she was a unique lady with a distinct style who stood tall and steady like the Eiffel Tower. Toni was hip, streetwise, highly articulate, and precise – the kind of person you'd like to meet because she was always smiling and always classy! Toni was a person of sharp wit and effortless style, always intelligent, poised and displayed a regal elegance.
However, beyond her impressive intellect and flair, Toni was loyal, loving, and caring in a way that set her apart. Every relationship she shared was a testament to her kindness and devotion. There was no one quite like her, and her impact on all who knew her will never be forgotten. Toni was well versed in the political arena. She always made moves with dignity and class. She was precious jewel in the eyes of God. She remained fiercely loyal to God and family. Toni remains– our "Sophisticated Lady"!
While she may be gone, Toni will never be forgotten by her children: Tamiko (Dwayne) Spencer, Mercedes Brown, Tone Babb and Rollins (Majale) Babb. She leaves cherished memories shared with her siblings Terry Jones, Vanessa Jones, John (Brenda) Jones, Arlene Hairston, Rick (Gwen) Jones, Renee (Scott) Showalter, James (Sockey) Jones, Elyce Herring, Duane Fields Sr., Kalynn Robinson, Kevin Fields, Sr., and Desirae Robinson.
Toni’s enduring legacy will be sustained by her twenty grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a score of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Her legacy of love, kindness, and creativity will forever resonate within the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to be part of her life.
As Toni crossed the celestial shores into eternity, she was escorted to the ancestral table by her father Ellis George Fields Sr., mother Rosie Kay Jones, daughter De’Bra Babb, sister Shirley Jones, brother Ellis Fields, Jr., brother-in-law Rev. R.F. Hairston III, and longtime friend Virginia “West” Fraizer and reunite with the cloud of elders who will honor the fruits of her labor.
As we gather to recognize Toni’s life, let us remember the laughter, the love, and the light she brought into the lives of others—a celebration of an extraordinary woman whose presence will be deeply missed, yet forever cherished.
Guests are invited to join in reflecting on the beautiful memories shared and the impact she made on her family and friends. A public viewing to celebrate Toni's life will be held on Tuesday December 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church,1000 3rd St NE, in Canton, Ohio. Following the viewing, a Celebration of Life service will take place at the at 12:00 PM, with Pastor L. W. Bolton officiating.
Toni will be laid to rest with a committal ceremony at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens for burial concluding the day with an interment that signifies not an end, but a transition to a beautiful memory of a life well-lived.
