Obituary For Mary Reese Martin

Mary Reese Martin 78 of Madison, NC passed Saturday, November 23, 2024. Public visitation will held from 1:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2024 at Perry - Spencer Funeral Home, 402 Short Avenue, Madison, NC. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Way of the Cross Church, 938 Brookdale St., Martinsville, VA with the Home Going service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Citizens Cemetery, located on Nicholas St, Madison, NC.

Mary R. Martin, 78, of Madison, North Carolina gracefully departed the Earth on November 23, 2024 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mary was born to John and Mabel Martin on November 4, 1946.

She attended Charles Drew high school where she led the band to field as a majorette. Mary furthered her education in Leberal Arts/Journalism at North Carolina A&T State University where she received her bachelor and masters degrees in print journalism. While attending North Carolina A&T, she began he career at American Express, then moved onto Bank of America as a mortgage consultant. While she attended A&T State University she worked as a journalist for the news and record and for state representative, Earl Jones. She was also a part of creating the 100th Centennial quilt which now hangs in NC A&T State University's library.

Mary was a compassionate woman who strived for prefection and insisted that her children did the same. She was a caregiver to her Elder, she was an editor of Books, she was a representative of high point furniture, market, and a devout, faithful servant of Christ, providing spiritual guidance to her friends and family, she was truly the matriarch of the family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John & Mabel Martin, Son Vaughntino Verlane Hayes, grandson, Javis Omar Hayes, and granddaughter Candance Mitchell.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Stephen Hayes (Kim), two daughters, Fatima Rhymes (Harvey) and Portia Hayes. She also leaves, her "Precious Loves of Gold Nuggets", Lamar Tatum, Jeremiah Woolridge, Jacob Woolridge, Shauntara Smith, India Marsh, Tyler Blackwell, Hannah Ingram, Kierston Dalton, Chad Penn, Shelia Lee, Joshua Hayes, Marquita Rucker, Ashley Hairston, Sierra Hairston, Ashley Welch, James Welch, Jr. and Marquikita Blackwell; two brothers, John Lynn (Lynn), Curtis Martin (Kathy), three sisters, Carolyn Martin, Tanya Martin and Laura Martin, with a whole host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
