Obituary For Mr. Gregory Lon Kelly

Mr. Gregory Lon Kelly was born on June 17, 1951, to Mary Theresa Kelly and the late Lon Kelly in Memphis, Tennessee. He left this earthly life on November 12, 2024.

He was fondly known by family and friends as "Greg." He graduated from Northside High School.

Greg was baptized at Melrose Church of Christ. He later placed membership at Norris Road Church of Christ where he was mentored by the late-great Nokomis Yeldell and began teaching Bible classes. After moving across town, Greg attended James Road Church of Christ.

He worked for many years at Fleming Fine Furniture before it went out of business. In his later years, he worked at Federal Express.

He was known for his loving heart and his love of poetry. He loved writing poems and was so proud when his book of poems was published. His caring personality drew people to him with ease. He enjoyed reading the Bible, sharing the word of God with others, and being a mentor to those in need. For many years, Greg volunteered at Eastwood/Delta Hospital Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Program as a sponsor for those with drug and alcohol addictions after overcoming his own addiction. When his volunteer work at the hospital ended, he continued to make himself available to sponsor anyone trying to clean up their lives from drugs and alcohol.

Greg leaves behind to forever cherish his loving memory, his mother, Mary Theresa Kelly; daughters, Sherell Lotefield and Latoria (Kelly) Gardner; son, Greg Martell Kelly (spouse, Marlene Brandon); grandchildren, Roan Gardner, Jr. (deceased), Nicholas Gardner, Stefen Gardner, Timothy Gardner, Aaliyah Guy, Yari Kelly, Omari Kelly, Zacari Kelly, Naomi Brumfield and Brayden Brumfield; brothers, Gerald “Jerry” Kelly, Harold David Kelly (deceased), Russell “Rikki” Kelly, Ray Marvin Walker (deceased), Kenneth “Kenny” Walker (spouse, Doris); sisters, Willie Marie “Sister” Walker Mullin, Gail Walker and Gloria Kelly; longtime partner and special friend, Vonda Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 6:30pm-8:00pm at R.S. Lewis and Sons 2944 Walnut Grove Road Memphis, TN 38111. Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 22, 2024 11:00am at Blvd Church of Christ 4438 Elvis Presley Blvd Memphis, TN 38116

Internment will be in New Park Cemetery 4536 Horn Lake Rd Memphis, TN 38109
