To the Barrett Family, may God cover you during your bereavement with faith, peace, and love. It was my pleasure and enjoyment to have known Steve during our adolescent and adult lives. He always filled our time with laughter, challenges, and definitive truths. He will be missed and remembered for his wit, charm, and extraordinary flair for the dramatic. Steve was a great friend, father, and brother. -Psalm 91: Grace and Peace, Minister Caroline Green Durham, NC

Its hard to wrap my head around the loss of my little brother. He was doing so good. He said he was going to fight this illness. I talked to him on that Saturday. At the end off the conversation I told him I loved him and he said I love you sis. God plucked a beautiful flower out of our family. He was funny, he loved to keep you laughing and he was a family man. There is a hole in my heart. Lord help me to except this loss that I can not change. Love you little brother. Take your rest. My Uncle Steve always had such charisma! I lived in Kansas City so most of our conversations were held over the phone. He was a people person, laid back but when you got to talking to him he made you feel like you hadn't missed a beat! My Uncle Steve knew no stranger and was a very hard worker! He seemed like he loved working, he always had multiple streams of income, and with each one he had the best stories. Because my uncle always worked it was rare that he took off. One of my most special memories was having my uncle take off and travel to Kansas City for my wedding! He said he had to make it! I guess you can say he was always there when you needed him. I love my Uncle Steve and I will sincerely miss our phone conversations but I'm so thankful that I have and will always cherish our last phone conversation. His voice was a lil raspy from his procedure, but he was Awake! He was so happy! He was so grateful! And all he spoke about was his praying mother, God rest her soul! He knew it was the fervent prayers of the righteous! (Mrs. Vera Barrett) that availeth much. James 5:16 It was so good to hear him worshiping and thanking God for himself and his mother. I could hear him thanking God for myself!! And that was the last time we spoke but it gave me such peace. RIP Uncle Steve, forever loved and cherished you'll be. Love, Rahmya Veal-Houpe and Family
