James Russell Broadnax, 98 of Reidsville, NC (formerly of Madison) passed Sunday, November 10, 2024. Public viewing will be held Friday, November 15, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Hayes Chapel United Methodist Church, 111 Hayes Chapel Drive, Madison, NC with the “Celebration of Life” at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Eden Gardens Cemetery, Eden, North Carolina.
Birth Is Your Opening Stock
James R. Broadnax was born on September 5, 1926, in Rockingham County, North Carolina, the second child of the late George D. and Rosetta B. Broadnax. He was educated in Rockingham County schools. He was drafted and served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. After an honorable discharge he met and married Alma Louise Brim. To this union seven children were born: James William, Alma Louvenia, JoAnn, Mary Elizabeth, Sarah Mae, Wilbert and Gilbert Broadnax. This union lasted 59 years. He joined Hayes Chapel Methodist Church in 1947 and was a faithful member serving in numerous capacities including Lay leader, treasurer, usher, janitor, and any other job that needed to be done in the church. He was a man who worked tirelessly sometimes day and night to provide for his family. His occupations included farming and textile.
He was preceded in death by Alma Broadnax (wife), James William Broadnax (son), Miranda Broadnax (grandchild), Bryan Egerton (grandchild), Devin Moyer (great grandchild), Ernest Broadnax (brother), Doris Foye (sister), John Broadnax (brother), Mary Sue Galloway (sister), and Marjorie Price (sister).
Those left to cherish his memory are children: Alma Egerton (Weldon), JoAnn Henderson (Ilvarez), Mary Moore (Girardeau), Sarah Dalton, Wilbert Broadnax, Gilbert Broadnax, sisters Betty Brim and Patricia Foye, brothers: Jesse and Robert (Vernie) Broadnax, grandchildren: Angela Moyer, Sherry Morgan (Steven), Jeff Broadnax, Kendrick Broadnax, Latreece Dalton (Abdul), Niki Henderson, Cynthia Moore, Glynis Goolsby (Nathan), Maurice Moore, Dennis Broadnax, Vanessa Flythe, and Christyle Bridges (Monte). He also leaves behind 21 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
