Alma Leigh Brawner was born on January 21, 1952, as the seventh of ten children of Joe Henry Brawner, Sr. and Thessalonia Corbett Brawner. She transitioned into Glory on Friday, October 11, 2024.
Alma attended Guilford County Schools, graduating from High Point Central High School in 1970. During her sophomore year, she achieved her childhood dream of joining the famous William Penn High School marching band, which closed in 1968. In her “heyday,” Alma was a talented artist and seamstress. She also had a passion for knitting and crocheting, creating beautiful, handcrafted items that she gifted to family and friends.
After high school, Alma pursued her education at North Carolina A&T State University and later at High Point University, majoring in Psychology. She spent her entire working career at what was then known as High Point Regional Hospital, where she worked as an Operating Room Technician. After many years in that role, she retired when her health began to decline.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Joseph Henry Brawner Jr. and George Alfred Brawner; her two sisters, Marguerite Brawner Miller and Willie Mae Brawner Wilson; and her grandparents, John Price Brawner and Alberta Almond Brawner, and William McKinley Corbett and Fannie Tate Corbett.
Surviving to cherish her memory are three sisters: Judith Lynnette Brawner, Sandra Brawner-Boone, and Tina Brawner Houston, all of High Point, NC; two brothers, Jon McKinley Brawner of Charlotte, NC, and Paul Webster Brawner of High Point, NC; surviving also are nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and many beloved cousins and friends. The family extends special acknowledgment to Alma’s niece and caretaker, Brandis Nicole Brawner.
