Earnest "Glen" Jones

Earnest “Glen” Jones 97 of Bowie, TX, passed away, Tuesday, October 1st, 2024.


Graveside services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15th, at Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, Brent Spray officiating.


Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 14th, at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.


Glen was born September 16, 1927 in Jefferson City, MO to Earnest Truman and Ruth Ann (Morris) Jones. As a young man he served in the United States Army Occupational Forces in Japan from 1946-1948. He then graduated from Texas A&I with a BBA in 1951 and went on to earn an MBA from the University of Houston in 1953. Glen worked as an analyst for the accounting department of Shell Oil Company from 1951-1961.


On October 15, 1955, Glen married Lois Ann Hodde in Houston, TX. The couple were married just shy of 69 years. In 1961 he received a LLB from Bates College of Law and joined Bettis Coffield in law practice. From 1963 to 1966 Glen served as the Bowie City Attorney, then County Judge from 1966-1970, and County Attorney from 1970 to 1972.


He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. He served on the original board of the Top of the Lake Country Club, the First Saving and Loan board, and was a member of the Tri County Bar Association and even served as President. He was the first President of the Jim Bowie Square Dance Club and Scout Master of Troop 116 for 15 years.


He is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Betty Harvey and husband RD, Patricia Jones, and Janet Satterwhite and husband Cotton.


Glen is survived by his wife, Ann Jones of Bowie; son, Jeb Jones of San Antonio, TX; daughter Vanessa McCarthy and husband Kenneth of Tampa, FL; sisters, Judith Carrier of Fort Worth, TX and Barbara Pulliam of Denton, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
